This TAP Air Portugal Business Class A330-900neo Review is from our flight from San Francisco SFO to Lisbon LIS. Along with Iberia Business Class, TAP is one of the more available nonstop award flight options from the U.S. West Coast to Europe.

SFO Lounge Access

TAP Air Portugal Business Class passengers have access to the United Polaris Lounge San Francisco, a very good lounge experience as U.S. airline international lounges go.

TAP Air Portugal Business Class Cabin and Seat, A330-900neo

On the A330-900neo, TAP has 34 business class seats, with a center pair in row 1, and the other 32 across 8 rows in a 1-2-1 configuration. Couples traveling together will want to be in odd-numbered rows, and solo travelers will also prefer odd-numbered rows, as these seats are closest to the window, with the side table by the aisle.

Seats are 22 inches wide, and each seat had a large pillow and duvet wrapped in plastic on the seat when we boarded.

There's small item storage above the table, with a sliding compartment door that keeps everything secure during take-off and landing. I liked that there were already two small bottles of water, as well as headphones and the amenity kit.

There's an additional small triangular storage compartment for a cell phone or other small item by the seat cushion itself:

What I didn't like was that the power outlet was awkwardly placed below knee level, making it trickier to plug in devices than when the outlet is near shoulder level.

The Verdict

Between Iberia Business Class and TAP Air Portugal Business Class, we'd definitely pick Iberia Business Class, as TAP Air Portugal is a more basic product: no pre-flight drink, no wine list, slightly lower quality food, indifferent to rude service, and the Lisbon Lounge we should have had access to in Lisbon was closed, with no lounge alternative offered. That said, we'd still fly TAP Air Portugal again if it was the most convenient option or only available award option, as the seat and hard product were perfectly fine (apart from the inconvenient placement of the power outlet). Just temper your expectations where the soft product is concerned.

AWFUL AIRLINE; Do not use them. Kept us in a plane on the tarmac for 1.5 hours. Then took us of as they hadn’t prepared the plane adequately. All they could do was put us on a plane 5.5 hours later which went to Heathrow and not Gatwick. We were informed we would be reimbursed the additional travel costs incurred. Have used their complaints service to try and get money back as there is no other means to do so. My emails have been ignored. Spent 45 minutes trying to get through their customer service on the phone; they simply… Read more »
