The Verdict
Our Singapore Airlines A380 Business Class flight JFK-Frankfurt was a good experience, as red eye flights from the U.S. to Europe go. Our seats, 96A and 96K, all the way in back on the upper deck, were very private, and particularly so since no passengers were in 96D or 96F, giving us the entire row to ourselves. The space and width of the Singapore Business Class seats is great, although I still don't care for the bed. I don't like having to get up and fold down the seat into a bed, instead of reclining it all the way into a bed (although this was mitigated on this flight by being able to use 96D and 96F as our separate beds). The bed is also too hard on its own, so I was glad I'd brought my Therm-a-rest mattress pad with me to make it more comfortable for sleeping.
Even so, because row 96 is in the back, the turbulence made for a very bumpy ride (seats in the front, closer to the nose, tend to be less affected by turbulence than seats in the back).
My Book the Cook Scallops and Shrimp entree was good, and the seafood was not overcooked as is often the case, although the linguine was overcooked. The meal took awhile to be served, however, so those who want to maximize their sleep on the short NYC-Frankfurt flight may want to simply dine in the SWISS Lounge.
If you've flown Singapore A380 Business Class recently, what was your experience?

Really? I’ve been reading blogs and flight stuff for a long time and had NO idea that it was more bumpy in the back. Not sure that I have never noticed but I generally choose to sit near the front for convenience. Now I will definitely choose the front!. Very interesting!
Yes; we’ve had this experience as well in much smaller planes, where it’s been even worse in the back, but even on the large A380 the amount of movement was very noticeable. It all depends how affected you are though by this; some passengers might well decide that the considerable privacy in these seats still makes it worthwhile.
Hilary, does JAL have the best business class seats in the world in your opinion? Does Singapore allow you to book business class award and then upgrade to First if seats open up?
While it does depend on what you value, my favorite airline business class that I’ve flown so far is JAL Business Class Sky Suite, but only if you can get a window seat. Some people might find it too narrow, but I highly value the privacy and bed comfort. You can change the cabin class of a Singapore KrisFlyer award for just USD $25 if first class opens up, which is very reasonable.
