Our Pesce Restaurant Review is from our stay at the Four Seasons Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo. Pesce is the resort's Italian restaurant, and the resort's signature restaurant.
.
Pesce Restaurant Location and Hours
Pesce, which is open daily from 6-10pm, is located next to the open air Anejo Tapas Bar, which is between Pesce and the resort's all day dining restaurant, Bahia. In addition to the indoor seating area (which in retrospect we'd recommend) there's an outdoor patio which has screens to keep away critters and insects.
.
Pesce Restaurant Menu and Food
We were welcomed and escorted to the outdoor table we'd requested. Paper menus were available, which we appreciate, since it seems more of an upscale restaurant experience, to us at least, rather than pulling up an online menu via QR code and scrolling through it. We spend more than enough time looking at screens as it is.
.
After we ordered, our server brought us olives, parmesan cheese, and a choice of fresh breads, offered from a bread basket. We particularly enjoyed the focaccia.
.
We started with the Trio of Bruschetta; the Burrata was our son's favorite, although I liked the sardine one.
.
The pastas were both very good, especially the Carbonara, although it couldn't beat the Carbonara I tried at La Quercia in Rome the month prior.
.
The highlight was the succulent Ossobucco with Polenta. The meat portions might look modest, but the dish's richness made it perfectly portioned, even taking into account my husband's and son's tax bites.
.
There wasn't a vegetable section on the menu, but the kitchen was happy to make some broccoli for us. It was steamed, whereas I would have preferred roasted, but provided the healthy side we needed.
.
From the dessert menu we opted to order a trio of sorbets (coconut, mango, raspberry), all of which were made in house and excellent.
.
It was a lovely surprise to also receive a molten chocolate cake accompanied by spiced apples and ice cream as a birthday surprise; this was fantastic.
.
The Verdict
We enjoyed our dishes at Pesce, particularly the Ossobucco con Polenta and the decadent molten chocolate cake that was presented as a complimentary birthday surprise. The only issue were the tiny insects that were present on the tablecloth in the outdoor portion of the restaurant, even though this area is screened off; we'd suggest dining inside, where they may be less prevalent.
