La Pergola Cafe may have Lausanne's best weekday lunch experience for the price. It's also off the beaten path, located in a nondescript private hospital, which apparently serves patients with ophthalmology, orthopedic, and orthopedic services, among others.

La Pergola Location and Hours
La Pergola is located in Clinique de Montchoisi, at Chem. des Allinges 10 in Lausanne, near the Musee d'Olympique. It's about a 12-minute walk from the Lausanne train station and a 20-minute walk from the Lausanne Palace Hotel. The cafe is open weekdays 8am-6pm, closed Saturdays and Sundays.
From the terrace, there are distant views of Lake Geneva.

La Pergola Menu and Food
The a la carte menu during my visit was modest in scope, and something to keep in mind is that all of the main courses featured chicken, fish, or meat, so this isn't the best choice for vegetarians unless they're content with a salad or appetizer and dessert.

I opted for all three courses of the Menu du Jour; it's also possible to have only two courses: appetizer and main course, or main course and dessert.

One of the things I love about France and French-speaking Switzerland is that it's always possible to ask for a pitcher of tap water (une carafe d'eau); no need to pay for bottled water or a pricey drink.

The bread basket offered both a crusty white roll and a brown seeded roll.

The appetizer was a Spanish-style egg tortilla with summer vegetables, enhanced with a red pepper sauce.

The salmon main course was cooked perfectly, with a crispy skin, and the roasted fennel provided pleasing contrast.

Dessert was a pistachio tart with berries that would have been at home in an upscale patisserie.

The Verdict
In pricey Switzerland, La Pergola's Menu du Jour taken on the scenic terrace on a nice day is the perfect weekday lunch. Everything was fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented, and service was attentive. Recommended.
