Opening on December 15, 2026, Hotel The Mitsui Hakone, Japan will be Hotel The Mitsui's flagship luxury resort and its second hotel in Japan after its Kyoto property. It will also be only the second luxury resort in the Hakone area, after the Hyatt Regency Hakone, although it will be joined in 2028 by the Alila Sengokuhara Hakone.

Set on grounds encompassing over 34 acres, the hotel will be about a 25-minute drive from Odawara Station, a 33-minute ride from Tokyo on the Tokaido Shinkansen (bullet train) line, and a 5-minute drive from Gora Station, which many travelers use to embark on the Hakone Tozan Cable Car to view forests and the volcanic area. The hotel is a 3-minute drive or 19-minute walk from the Hakone Open Air Museum.

Guests come to the resort via a tree-lined approach that leads to a dramatic roof structure framing views of Mount Sengen, creating a striking sense of arrival and an immediate connection to the landscape. The 126-room property is designed by Yabu Pushelberg (Park Hyatt New York, Four Seasons Toronto, Four Seasons New York Downtown, Rosewood Guangzhou, among others), with hotel interiors that feature natural materials and textures throughout. The expansive lounge, with floor-to-ceiling openings and terraces overlooking the landscape, offers a bright and relaxing setting to unwind.
Entry-level Deluxe Rooms are 516 sq. ft. (48 sq. m.), with a private balcony.

Premier Rooms are 516-613 sq. ft. (48-57 sq. m.), also with a private balcony and a round indoor soaking tub near the window, allowing guests to take in the forest scenery.

Grand Rooms are 548 sq. ft. (51 sq. m.), with a 130 sq. ft. private balcony.

The 22 Onsen Garden Rooms are bound to be popular, with an outdoor private onsen as part of the private terrace.

There will also be larger suites and five private villas, perfect for family stays.

Hakone is renowned as one of Japan's top hot spring destinations. Hotel The Mitsui Hakone's Thermal Spring Spa offers both indoor and outdoor onsen bathing, fed by natural thermal spring waters.

The resort's all-day-dining restaurant, Riverine, offers both indoor and open-air terrace dining with views of Mount Sengen.

The resort's Japanese restaurant, Sankei, exclusively serves dinner, with sushi, teppanyaki, and refined kaiseki cuisine offered.
