This Hotel Bel Ami, Paris review is from our recent stay at this former printing house turned luxury boutique hotel.

Hotel Bel Ami Paris Location and Getting There
The hotel is located at 7 rue Saint-Benoît in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés area, about a 15-minute walk from the Musee d'Orsay and 13-minute walk from the Jardin du Luxembourg. Our favorite patisserie, Pierre Hermé, is only a 6-minute walk away. It's a ~45-minute drive from Paris CDG Airport, depending on traffic, or 50 minutes by taking the RER B train to the
Châtelet les Halles Station, then transferring to the Metro 4 line to the Saint-Germain-des-Prés Station, a 4-minute walk away.
The reception was on the right upon entering.

.
The lobby seating was contemporary and stylish, including a couple of dangling chairs.

.
Deluxe Room
We were in Deluxe Room #306 on the third floor, which enjoyed high ceilings. Deluxe Rooms are ~312 sq. ft. (39 Sq. M.).

.
We liked that there was a view of the leafy street from the window.

.
Deluxe Rooms typically have one “king” bed that is 70 inches (180 cm.) wide and 79 inches (200 cm.) long, so not quite as wide as a usual U.S. king bed, which is 76 inches wide. That said, our Deluxe Room had two twin beds side by side; this was fine for us, but it's important to clarify with the hotel if you have a strong bed preference. We found the mattresses too firm for our taste, but those who prefer firm mattresses would probably like them.

.

.
On the desk was a local welcome amenity: a bar of dark chocolate with hazelnuts.

.
A Nespresso machine and complimentary boxed water is provided.

.

.
There's a separate toilet chamber just off of the entrance, and beside it is the bathroom, which was small but had everything that was needed, as well as very fluffy towels.

.
I did wish that there had been a walk-in shower instead of the bathtub-shower combo, however.

The evening that we arrived, we were too tired to venture out, so we got room service. It was simple fare, but delicious: smoked salmon with toast and dill cream cheese:

.
Pesto pasta with tomatoes and cheese:

.
And a well-rendered tarte tatin for dessert:

The Verdict
For clients wanting to be on the Rive Gauche (Left Bank), and are happy to forego the luxury of the palais (palace) hotels such as the Four Seasons George V, The Peninsula Paris, Le Bristol Paris, etc. in favor of a boutique hotel, we recommend the Bel Ami Paris. Our Deluxe Room was very quiet and had good natural light and there were very plush towels in the bathroom. Detractors were that the mattress was too firm for our taste and there was a bathtub-shower combo. The breakfast buffet included high quality products: freshly squeezed orange and grapefruit juices, artisanal yogurts and jams, and homemade granola, and espresso drinks on request were included at no extra charge.
