1. Whale Shark Snorkeling
If you're interested in seeing a whale shark up close, the Maldives is one of a handful of destinations in the world where you have a good chance of this, especially in the summer months. The Conrad Maldives offers a Whale Shark Snorkeling trip by speed boat on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday mornings 9am-12noon for $200 + tax/service per adult, and $100 + tax/service per child age 11 or younger. Due to the timing of our visit, only my husband was able to go, since he departed later than we did on a Sunday.
Unfortunately no whale sharks were sighted on his trip, and there is of course no guarantee that you'll see one. If we had been staying longer, a 50% discount would have been available for a second whale shark snorkeling trip.
2. See Manta Rays at Night
You can go on a snorkeling or diving trip to see manta rays at Hanifaru Bay in the summer and early fall months, but it's even possible to see manta rays by the resort at night, either by the bridge connecting the two islands, or in our case, by Mandhoo Restaurant. If you enjoy that experience, I highly recommend doing the Manta Ray Night Dive on the Big Island of Hawaii, ideally combined with a stay at Four Seasons Hualalai.
3. Relax and Enjoy the View
While we're not big lie-on-the-beach people, we did enjoy a half hour of relaxing on lounge chairs after snorkeling the house reef, talking and taking in the views.
4. Snorkeling by the House Reef
The water was actually quite rough when we ventured in for snorkeling, so it wasn't as pleasant as it could have been, but we did see a few giant parrot fish chomping away on coral, blue surgeon fish, butterfly fish and angel fish. The best place to enter is by Villa 225–see this map:
Just be on the lookout for jellyfish, or wear a dive skin to protect yourself:
5. Kids: Feed Fish by Ithaa Restaurant and Kids' Club Activities
One of the first things our son enjoyed doing after we arrived was joining some other kids from the Kids' Club to feed the fish above the Ithaa Undersea Restaurant. No doubt this also helps the restaurant ensure a good number of fish around the restaurant for dining guests 🙂
Our son also enjoyed numerous games of foosball at the Kids' Club, and a themed “Pirate Day.”
6. Enjoy a Massage at the Spa Retreat or Over Water Spa
We didn't have any spa treatments during our visit. Our massages tend to be therapeutic and we already see an amazing therapist in NYC who also works on the pros during the U.S. Open, so most spa massages tend to be a bit disappointing. But for those simply looking for a relaxing spa experience, there are a couple choices at the Conrad Maldives: the Over Water Spa off Rangali Island, where you can view fish below the glass floor during your massage, and the Spa Retreat across from Mandhoo Restaurant which offers 9 couple's treatment pavilions with steam room, sauna, and either a jacuzzi, couple's soaking tub or Vichy shower.
7. Happy Hour at Vilu (Complimentary for Hilton HHonors Gold and Diamond Members)
Since my husband had Hilton HHonors Gold status via the Citi HHonors Reserve card, we decided to check out the Happy Hour at Vilu. The complimentary hors d'oeuvres and wine were nice, although it was somewhat disappointing that no fresh squeezed juices were on offer.
If you've stayed at the Conrad Maldives, what were your favorite things to do?

I would reconsider expectation of fresh squeezed juice if you actually know what it’s like fresh. Meaning, alot of fruits are very difficult to squeeze and probably not much juice come out of it. Have you eaten a fresh mango before?! It’s got thick skin and a large seed. Did you expect that would be simple to get juice from? You should try it yourself one day and then reconsider your disappointment.
I have had fresh mango juice at other luxury resorts, and I’ve made it myself at home, as I eat mangoes a lot. You simply puree the fruit with a bit of water in a blender or food processor into a smooth juice, it’s not difficult at all. You can strain out any pulp that is too fibrous. So yes, I’m very familiar not only with being served this juice but making it myself. Also, the Conrad didn’t provide any other fresh squeezed juices in the included breakfast and cocktail hour, not even orange juice.
