1. Snorkeling and Diving
Soneva Fushi, as with Four Seasons at Landaa Giraavaru, is well placed in Baa Atoll for great dive sites. I enjoyed seeing some beautiful iridescent colored giant clams, two octopuses, puffer fish, and a turtle as well as all kinds of tropical fish on my dive with Soleni Dive Center, and between June and October it's possible to see manta rays and if you're lucky, a whale shark.
The best snorkeling is near the sunset pier, by Bar(a)baru, where my husband saw a large spiny lobster, octopus, and some mini giant clams, and cuttlefish (cool to watch them change color!) The Marine Biologists at the Soleni Dive Center even take the kids snorkeling, as part of the Kids' Club.
2. Savor One of 30 Homemade Ice Creams or Sorbets from the Ice Cream Room
I don't normally put food things in an activities post, but the ice cream room has to be seen to be believed. When was the last time you stayed at a hotel where you could into a room anytime you liked and choose, on a complimentary basis, from around 30 different homemade ice cream and sorbet flavors such as passionfruit, honeycomb, limoncello, mint chocolate chip, coconut, dark chocolate, pumpkin chili, etc.?
3. Enjoy Cocktails on Soneva Fushi's Private Sandbank (or Even Stay Overnight)
Once a week there are cocktails hosted by management, on Soneva Fushi's private sandbank. You get there via speedboat, alight, and are handed a cocktail to enjoy, plus other cocktails, wines and smoothies as well as hors d'oeuvres are available. A lovely way to meet other guests and staff and enjoy the sunset.
4. Explore the Island by Bicycle
Each couple or family has its own bicycles for use during their stay at Soneva Fushi, and it's a great way of getting around given the size of the island. Strangely it looks like I didn't get a photo of ours, but you can see a boy on his bike in this Soneva Fushi “Slow Life” video:
5. Go Sailing Around the Island
This is a fun activity through the Water Sports hut, and it was even an included activity for the munchkin, thanks to the complimentary Kids' Club. I couldn't believe how fast they circumnavigated the island–definitely some skilled sailing instructors!
6. View the Stars and Constellations at the Observatory
Sadly we didn't get to experience this due to the Observatory being repaired during our stay, but this is a real highlight for many guests–how many resorts are there with their own little observatory?!
7. Watch a Film Al Fresco at Cinema Paradiso
We had the chance to do this during our stay, but were so tired we ended up going to sleep early that night. I love outdoor movies though, and cinephiles will want to see what's screening during their stay.
8. Enjoy a Swim in Your Private Pool
While of course we did enjoy snorkeling and in my case diving, my son also loved splashing around in our private pool and having water fights with my husband. I highly recommend reserving a villa with a pool, especially if you have kids.
9. Make Your Own Masuni Roshi
One of the tastiest kids' club activities was a cooking lesson that taught the kids how to make their own masuni roshi. In the version they made, the tuna was baked right into the roshi, which was the most delicious version I've eaten. Yum!
10. Play Chess with a Friend
My son was lucky enough to meet a boy just a year older than him, whom he enjoyed playing chess with. There are chess tables right by Mihiree Mitha, as well as in the villas, so it's easy to start an impromptu game of chess.
11. Relax on a Swing
While there's plenty of options for things to do at Soneva Fushi, we all also enjoyed just doing nothing, relaxing on a swing and talking. It's one of the best ways to feel you're truly on vacation–nowhere to hurry to, no phones ringing–truly the Soneva ethos of “no news, no shoes.”
If you've been to Soneva Fushi, what are your favorite things to do?
