Laucala Private Island, Fiji joins COMO

Laucala Private Island Will Rebrand as COMO Laucala Island as of December 15, 2021. COMO hotels and resorts are best known for the idyllic location of their island resorts, such as COMO Parrot Cay in Turks and Caicos and COMO Maalifushi and COMO Cocoa Island in the Maldives, combined with a focus on wellness and healthy cuisine.

While the reason for the reflagging wasn't disclosed, we suspect that with Fiji's long closure of nearly two years over the pandemic, Laucala's owner, Austrian billionaire and Red Bull co-founder Dietrich Mateschitz has prioritized growing Laucala's guest numbers, and figures that being part of a larger luxury brand such as COMO will be helpful. That said, in our experience, COMO, with just 14 other hotels and resorts (COMO recently sold the COMO Metropolitan Miami Beach, the only COMO hotel in the U.S.) doesn't command the brand loyalty of Aman Resorts or Four Seasons, and Laucala, where rates start at well over $5000 per night for 1BR Plantation Villas (minimum ~27,000 sq. ft.) with its private island all inclusive experience, is in another category than other COMO resorts.
