Chase Freedom 30,000 Points By Calling

Update: This offer is no longer available

Just a quick update that there is a 30,000 point bonus for the Chase Freedom Visa available: simply call [updated: number no longer works] to apply.

Normally online credit card offers are better than offline; in fact, I never recommend that you go into a bank branch to apply, because often they can't provide you as good a bonus offer as you receive online. But at least in this case, through the above number, the offer is better than any I'm aware of online.

If you're a regular TravelSort reader, you know that the Chase Freedom is my go-to card for ALL small purchase amounts, due to the 10 extra points per transaction and 10% of base points you receive if you also have a Chase checking account. See Chase Exclusives Bonuses: Maximize Chase Freedom Ultimate Rewards Points. These bonuses mean that I still use the Chase Freedom for all small purchases under $1.50, since even if I use a Visa gift card purchase through Staples in the Ultimate Rewards Mall to get over 7.6x back, I'm better off getting 12 points for a $1.50 purchase with the Chase Freedom and Chase Exclusives, than an effective 11.4 points with the Visa card bought online through Staples. I also intend to max out all the Chase Freedom 5x bonuses; I can't get enough Visa gift cards in May to get 7x for all our purchases for the rest of the year, and 5x for groceries and the other bonus categories (see below chart) is still great.

Chase Freedom 30,000 Points Bonus Offer Details:

  • 30,000 Ultimate Rewards points (or $300 cash back) after $500 spend on the Chase Freedom Visa within the first 3 months
  • 30,000 more points (or 5% cash back) per year for up to $1500 on quarterly bonus categories (grocery stores and movie theaters 3/1/12-5/31/12); see our Chase Freedom Visa Review for more info
  • 1% cash back on all other purchases
  • Points may be transferred 1:1 to United/Continental, British Airways, Korean Air, Hyatt, Marriott, Intercontinental/Priority Club, Amtrak and Southwest as long as you have the Sapphire Preferred, Ink Bold or other card connected to Ultimate Rewards
  • No annual fee and rewards never expire

As a reminder, here are the Chase Freedom bonus categories for this year:

Since you need either a Sapphire Preferred or Ink Bold  to be able to transfer points out to Ultimate Rewards partners, I highly recommend you apply the same day for an Ink Bold card if you don't yet have one, since Chase usually is willing to approve a personal and business credit card application at the same time.

Of course, if you already have the Freedom, I'd recommend one of the following application combinations. You can apply for all of these cards on our Best Travel Credit Cards page.

1. Ink Bold (or Ink Plus) + Hyatt Visa (register by May 11 for trial Platinum status before applying)

2. Ink Bold (or Ink Plus) + United MileagePlus Explorer (see United MileagePlus Explorer 65,000 Bonus Miles)

4. Ink Bold (or Ink Plus) + Marriott Visa (see Best Marriott Hotels and Resorts to Stay at Free with the Marriott Visa)
