The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express uses some restored, vintage train carriages from the original Orient Express, once operated by the Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits in the 1920s and 1930s; additional restored carriages have been added over the years.

A must for luxury travelers is one of the newer Grand Suites, as these are the only ones that have their own toilet and private shower. Guests in the Twin Cabin and Cabin Suite (which is composed of two Twin Cabins) share the two toilets on each train car, and there is no shower facility for these passengers.
