Four Seasons Preferred Partner is the Best Way to Get Upgraded at a Four Seasons, since it prioritizes Preferred Partner guests ahead of AMEX Fine Hotels & Resorts, Virtuoso, and reservations made directly with Four Seasons, instead of a Four Seasons Preferred Partner agency. Of course, there need to be upgrades available, and typically the upgrade is a one category upgrade from the one you booked.
But sometimes, during shoulder or low seasons, and depending on the property and the original category booked, there's a special upgrade. And while I was certainly advocating on behalf of my client for an upgrade, even I was thrilled with the upgrade clients recently received.

And here's the 3 Bedroom Residence Villa with Plunge Pool that they were upgraded to!
There are only three guests in the family, so they could each have their own bedroom and their own bathroom. Their upgraded villa is over 3 times as spacious as their original suite (and triple the cost), plus has a wonderful plunge pool that their original suite didn't have.
