What Counts as Eligible 5X Spend
Gas Stations must specialize in gas for cars; examples of places that are *not* included are truck stops, boat marinas, oil and propane distributors, and home heating companies.
EV charging is paid for at the charging station or via mobile app; residential electric vehicle charging is not included in this category. Electric vehicle charging equipment purchases and servicing for any use, including residential or commercial, are not included in this category.
The select live entertainment category includes major sporting events, zoos and aquariums, concerts, theatrical productions, museums, tourist attractions and exhibits, amusement parks, circuses, carnivals, bands, and entertainers, as well as ticket agencies that sell tickets on behalf of the entertainment venue are included. Some merchants that sell tickets for in-person entertainment are not included in this category; for example, movie theaters, bowling alleys, horse racing tracks, casinos, and dance hall/clubs are *not* included. Purchasing from a hotel/concierge is not included nor excursions or purchases as part of a travel package.
For Instacart, note that restaurant transactions are *not* eligible for 5X.

Maximize Chase Freedom Points via Ultimate Rewards
In order to maximize the value of the points you earn, make sure you have a Chase card such as the Chase Sapphire Reserve or the Ink Business Preferred so that you can combine your Freedom points and transfer them as Ultimate Rewards points to partners such as Aeroplan, British Airways, Singapore KrisFlyer, United MileagePlus, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, Air France/KLM Flying Blue, and others. What's especially valuable is taking advantage of periodic transfer bonuses to frequent flyer programs, most often to British Airways/Iberia/Aer Lingus, Aeroplan, and Virgin Atlantic. We've used our points for ANA First Class Suites, SWISS Business Class, Iberia Business Class, Aer Lingus Business Class, Qatar First Class, and Qatar Qsuites Business Class, among others.
