CLEAR Membership allows skip the line expedited access to airport security. CLEAR's Web site doesn't seem to offer the CLEAR 2 month free trial directly, but using code GOLD2 provides a 2 month free trial, handy if you don't have a credit card such as the AMEX Platinum/Business Platinum that provides a statement credit to offset the $189 annual fee. It makes sense to only sign up right before you plan to travel, so you can make the most of the two complimentary months and see whether it's worth paying the $189 fee to keep your membership.

One good thing about CLEAR, for parents of children under 18, is that there's no cost or vetting needed for them to accompany you in the CLEAR line. They don't have their biometrics checked, so if the regular line to get to the ID check is long, CLEAR can save significant time for families, without having to apply for Global Entry/PreCheck approval. Keep in mind, however, that this only works if you or your spouse/partner with CLEAR is accompanying your child; your child isn't able to use CLEAR unaccompanied.

Lately, many travelers have found that TSA PreCheck lines are actually faster at a number of airports than the CLEAR lines, but it can be helpful to have both CLEAR and PreCheck so that you have a choice of lines while waiting to verify ID; it's more helpful to have PreCheck for the security check itself, since you can keep your shoes on and your laptop in your bag.
