This Review of the Wedgewood Hotel & Spa in downtown Vancouver is from our stay there a few months ago. The hotel is a Virtuoso member, offering upgrades and perks to TravelSort Clients, and also belongs to Relais & Chateaux
Wedgewood Hotel & Spa Location and Check-In
The Wedgewood Hotel & Spa originally opened 40 years ago, in 1984, and continues to be a family owned hotel. There was no line when I checked in, late afternoon, and reception staff were always polite and helpful.
.
Deluxe Suite
We were graciously upgraded to a Deluxe Suite on the seventh floor; these are 625 square feet and sleep either two adults or two adults and a child, since select suites have a sofa bed in the living area.
A bar area in the living room included a Nespresso machine and a separate electric kettle, which I appreciated.
.
The Virtuoso welcome amenity was a box of chocolates, which were delicious.
.
There's one bathroom off of the bedroom which has a single sink, regular shower (no rain shower) and a separate soaking tub. Bath products are by L'Occitane.
.
While the living room and bedroom were on the dark side, a highlight was the view from the balcony of the trees and greenery of Robson Square.
.
Wedgewood Hotel & Spa Breakfast
Bacchus Restaurant serves breakfast daily from 7-11am. Virtuoso benefits include daily breakfast for up to two guests per room, which consists of juice and coffee or tea and one item. I found it very stingy that if you don't choose one of the classic egg dishes and instead select bircher muesli or oats, which are about half the price of the egg dishes, you're not able to also select a side dish, even though it would come to the same or less in terms of dollar amount. We also had to pay extra to get a pastry basket; better hotels would simply include this, or have a set dollar amount for both breakfasts that one could order up to.
.
The orange juice was excellent.
.
The three egg omelette, which I got with mushrooms, chevre, and spinach, was good, although not memorable.
.
My husband's bircher muesli was the better dish, although less expensive, and not really enough on its own.
.
The best item was the flaky pain au chocolat, whereas neither of us cared for the bran muffin.
.

The Verdict
While our favorite Vancouver luxury hotel stay remains the Gold Floor at the Fairmont Pacific Rim, we enjoyed our brief stay at The Wedgewood Hotel & Spa in Vancouver. It's ideal for guests who prefer a smaller boutique hotel and don't need or want a water view or swimming pool. We do think the hotel should be less stingy with its breakfast benefit, allowing a Virtuoso guest who chooses the Bircher Muesli to also choose a side dish, for example berries, given the price differential between the classic egg dishes and a muesli (or oats or fruit plate).
