This Four Seasons Madrid Review is from our 2022 site inspection visit. The hotel opened in 2020, during the pandemic, after years of painstaking restoration work, as the main facade is a former bank and heritage 19th century building that was acquired by Santander. Six other adjoining buildings were also restored and form part of the hotel, as well as La Galeria de Canalejas, a luxury shopping mall and restaurants.

Four Seasons Madrid Location and Arrival
Four Seasons Madrid is located at Calle de Sevilla, 3, a 10 minute walk from the Prado Museum, an 8 minute walk from Plaza Mayor, and a 15 minute walk from the El Retiro Park. Madrid Airport (MAD) is a 15-25 minute drive, depending on traffic.
We arrived in the early afternoon, a little before our room was ready, so we had a chance to enjoy the beautiful lobby, also known as El Patio, which offers ample seating. Drinks and light bites, including afternoon tea and afternoon/early evening tapas, can be ordered here.

Four Seasons Madrid Premier Room
Four Seasons Madrid offers six categories of rooms, starting with the entry-level Superior Courtyard Room with one king or two double beds (484-538 sq. ft.), which faces an interior courtyard, not the city. Above the Superior Courtyard Rooms are Deluxe Alcala Rooms, Deluxe Sevilla Rooms, and then a Premier Room (592-700 sq. ft.), which is the type we were in. These can be with either one King or two Double Beds, and since I was traveling with my teen, we chose the latter. We appreciated the extra space and the tall ceilings, which lent an airy feel to the room. We also appreciated the use of fresh flowers, in this case orchids:

While we travel light, with carry-on luggage only (see The Joy of Never Checking Luggage), guests who prefer to bring more with them will have ample space to store and hang everything in the dressing and closet area just outside the bathroom. My teen, who at the time was a little shy of 6 feet, had room to lie down in one of the two closet areas, demonstrating the amount of space.

The elegant marble bathroom had two double sinks, a separate toilet chamber, glass enclosed shower (although with a regular shower head, not a rain shower), and bath products by Frederic Malle.

Welcome amenities weren't in the room when we arrived, but were delivered later, after we had a chance to settle in. They included a personalized tile with the hotel's iconic building, Spanish vermouth and olives, cheese with bread sticks, and other bread sticks wrapped in Iberico ham. We're not vermouth drinkers (especially not my teen) but everything else was delicious.

Four Seasons Madrid Spa Swimming Pool and Sun Deck
Spa lovers should definitely pick the Four Seasons Madrid, which has the largest spa of any luxury hotel in Madrid, over four levels, including treatment rooms, the gym, and our favorite, the 8th floor swimming pool with natural light from the skylights above it.

Nearby is the jacuzzi, with jets to massage sore muscles, and beyond that is a sun deck that felt private when we ventured out to it, as there were no other guests even during our visit in the busy summer months.

The Verdict
Our favorite Madrid luxury hotel stay of the three hotels we stayed at was at the Four Seasons Madrid, thanks to the comfortable, well-appointed room, great night's sleep in the Four Seasons bed (so much more comfortable for us than Aman, Park Hyatt, and other luxury hotels with hard beds), the lovely skylit swimming pool and sundeck, and al fresco rooftop dining at Dani Brasserie. While we'd like to see rain showers in the bathrooms and slightly better service at Dani for dinner, this is the luxury hotel we'd recommend for Madrid.
