Bahamas Bans Most American Travelers from July 22

.

The Bahamas Will Ban Most American Travelers Arriving on Commercial Flights Effective July 22, 2020 at midnight. This follows the country's July 1, 2020 reopening of its borders, with 49 new cases of Covid-19 being diagnosed since July 1. Prime Minister Hubert Mannis announced the restrictions on U.S. commercial flights in a press conference on 7/19.

Commercial flights will continue to be allowed from Canada, the UK, and the European Union, and to accommodate U.S. visitors already in the Bahamas, outgoing commercial flights to the U.S. will continue to be permitted. Bahamasair has already ceased outbound flights from the Bahamas to the U.S.

Private international flights and charters for Bahamians, residents and visitors continue to be permitted, so TravelSort clients who are flying private are able to keep their travel plans to the Bahamas intact. Those arriving on yachts or other pleasure craft are also permitted.

The Bahamas' entry requirements for all arrivals remain:

  • A negative RT-PCR Covid-19 test result, from a test taken no more than 10 days prior to the date of travel to the Bahamas: results need to be uploaded when applying for the health visa certificate.
  • An approved Bahamas Health Visa Certificate (this can take up to 72 hours to be approved, from the time it's submitted)
  • Both of the above must be in a passenger's possession before boarding a flight for the Bahamas or within the Bahamas; commercial airlines and commercial sea vessels face a fine of $500 per passenger who lacks an approved Bahamas Health Visa.

Also keep in mind the mask requirement: all Bahamas residents and visitors must wear a face mask in public spaces, or face a fine of $200, one month in prison, or both.
