50X Alaska Miles for Magazines

50X Alaska Miles for Magazines

Earn 50X Alaska Miles per Dollar for Magazines.com. I'm not very keen on earning Alaska miles at the moment (see 3 Reasons Alaska Miles Aren't Worth Earning) due to the reduced award availability that Alaska is able to book.

That said, I've been planning to get another subscription to The Economist anyway, and have been religiously checking EV Reward for an enhanced Magazines.com bonus. I was worried that the Alaska 50X was wrong (since EV Reward has been showing Ultimate Rewards at 25 points per dollar, when it's 20 points per dollar) but fortunately it's indeed 50X.

Since we're doing pretty well with our other points currencies, such as Ultimate Rewards points, AMEX Membership Rewards points and AAdvantage miles, I just may replenish some Alaska miles that we've redeemed on Cathay Pacific Business Class and Virgin America First Class, especially since the most other key shopping portals I use such as AAdvantage and Ultimate Rewards are offering are 20X per dollar.

Here are the 50X details:

  • Earn 50 Alaska Mileage Plan miles per dollar at Magazines.com
  • Valid through June 20, 2017
  • Not eligible on automatically renewed subscriptions.
  • Not eligible on purchases made with coupon or discount codes that are not found on this site.
  • Orders cancelled within 90 days are not eligible.
  • Not eligible on gift card, certificates or any other similar cash equivalents.

Example: 13,500 Alaska miles for a $270 2-year subscription to The Economist

While I wouldn't personally take advantage of this offer for magazines we weren't planning to buy anyway, since it's basically buying Alaska miles at 2 cents each, it's a good deal for any magazines you wanted to subscribe to anyway. As an example, a 2 year subscription to The Economist, which is $270, will earn you 13,500 Alaska miles.

FAQ

When Do Alaska Mileage Plan Miles Post?

Per Alaska, miles usually post within 3-5 days, but can take up to 45 days to post. If you haven't received miles within 45 days of the transaction, contact Alaska including the vendor (Magazines.com), your order number, purchase date, and purchase amount. Note that merchants won't address inquiries for missing miles for transactions made over 180 days ago, so track your miles from the shopping portal to be sure your bonuses post.

Do I Need to Use an Alaska Credit Card for the Purchase?

No; unlike Chase Ultimate Rewards (which does require you to use a Chase card to earn points through the Ultimate Rewards Mall) there is no requirement to use an Alaska credit cards when shopping through the Alaska Mileage Plan Mall.

What Are Alaska Mileage Plan Miles Worth?

Alaska regularly runs buy miles offers that provide a 40% bonus on purchases of 40,000-60,000 miles, which equates to 2.1 cent per mile. I personally value Alaska miles less than that, due to the aforementioned problems redeeming them for certain partner awards that American AAdvantage and British Airways Avios can book. I currently value Alaska miles at 1.4 cents per mile, but depending on how you redeem your Alaska miles your valuation may be higher or lower.
