Great deal on United Airlines for nonstop NYC to LA or San Francisco roundtrip for just $198!

  • Valid for nonstop flights between Newark (EWR) to LA (LAX) or San Francisco (SFO)
  • Dates: 9/3/13 to 10/30/13 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays
I just booked the munchkin and me for a trip to see some old friends in the Bay Area, during a school holiday he'll have this fall.

Best of all, we were able to take $200 off, thanks to maximizing the AMEX Platinum Airline Fee Credit. So that's essentially getting one ticket free, and flying both of us cross-country for under $200–not bad! $100 roundtrip is a price at which even I will fly coast to coast in economy 🙂 (although I probably will pay for Economy Plus on the outbound).

The only problems I ran into were not to do with the fare sale, but with the United gift certificate I was using to take $200 off:
  • At least on my screen, there wasn't a place to enter in the United gift certificate number. Not sure if it was a Google Chrome issue, although I'm pretty sure I was using Chrome last time I used a United Gift Certificate code.
  • Since the Gift Certificate is supposed to just be off of one ticket, I had to call in and book the munchkin's ticket separately, since I wasn't trying to book an unaccompanied minor–he *is* accompanied, just couldn't book our tickets online together due to the Gift Certificate. Some folks get around this by entering an adult date of birth, then calling to switch it. Fortunately, the phone booking fee was waived in both instances since I couldn't get either done online.

If you want this fare, I'd book it NOW, since new higher fares could be filed at any time, and you can always cancel within 24 hours for no fee while you double check that the dates and times work for you.

Will you be taking advantage of this fare sale?
