Novotel Bangkok Airport Location, Lobby and Check-In

We stayed at the Novotel Bangkok Airport Hotel back in March 2014, before our trip to Koh Samui, so thankfully I knew exactly where to find the underground walkway. You need to descend to the lower level and follow the signs to the airport express train, which is where you'll also start seeing signs to the airport hotel. Keep following them until you emerge just outside the lobby of the Novotel Bangkok Airport Hotel.

Unlike last time, there was fortunately no wait to check in. Since we spent a rather uncomfortable night last time (regular rooms don't accommodate an extra bed) this time I went ahead and booked a suite. We were given a couple of vouchers for complimentary drinks while checking in, so we first stopped at the bar and picked up a couple of juices (since as usual our son was hungry) before heading to our room.

Novotel Bangkok Airport Hotel Suite

My expectations were low, based on our last visit (my husband maintains that low expectations are the key to enjoying everything) but I was pleasantly surprised by the space and amenities of the suite. The living area had an L shaped sofa that was perfect, with the extra bedding we requested, to make a bed for the munchkin. There was also a handy half bathroom, so that our son had his own bathroom.

Of course my son immediately spied the welcome fruit, and the sweets this time included some macarons–better than candies we'd had in our Executive Room last time.

There was an Illy espresso machine, a nice touch, and plenty of bottled water–which is key for Thailand, where you can't drink the tap water.

The suite bedroom had a pretty comfortable king bed, TV and work desk:

The master bathroom had a soaking tub, which we'd missed the last time, with only a shower in the Executive Room. The wall separating the bathroom from the bedroom is glass, but at least there's a shade that can be closed. Still not my favorite design though, since light can filter out and disturb your partner if you need to go to the bathroom during the night.

There was just one vanity, not dual vanities:

What I really didn't care for was the glass door to the WC–poor design from a privacy perspective, in my view. The walk-in shower was fine, with good water pressure.

Outdoor Pool

This time my husband and son had a chance to enjoy the outdoor pool, which is on the 2nd level and accessible by stairs or elevator from the lobby.

Novotel Bangkok Airport Hotel Breakfast Buffet

We learned our lesson from last time and skipped the poor breakfast in the Executive Club Lounge, in favor of the breakfast buffet at Square Restaurant, which was more extensive. It was a curious mixture of some quite good things and some cheap, poor quality breakfast staples. More photos to come.

A highlight, although it doesn't look like much, were the omelets from the made to order omelet station–we asked for hot Thai chilis in ours, along with cheese and bacon–delicious!

The Verdict

We enjoyed our stay at the Novotel Bangkok Airport hotel more this time than on our previous visit, for a couple main reasons: 1) We stayed in a suite, which was the right size for our family; and 2) We had more time and were able to take advantage of the more extensive and better breakfast buffet at Square Restaurant, in lieu of the poor spread at the Executive Club Lounge.

If you've stayed recently at The Novotel Bangkok Airport Hotel, what was your experience?

Thanks for your review of the rooms, as I have never stayed overnight. I frequently have been there over the last 5-10 years, walking from the airport terminal when I have some hours inbetween flights- searching for decent, healthy food, and a peaceful environment away from the hectic airport. Peace can certainly be found, but the food overall could be a lot better. If they had at least average-good food, the hotel would be super busy. I guess it is a chicken and egg situation, because it’s not busy, they don’t put much effort into the food and beverage side.… Read more »
