Hyatt: 10 Percent Off Hyatt Gift Cards, Check Certificates and Stay Certificates

Hyatt: 10% Off Hyatt Gift Cards, Check Certificates and Stay Certificates

Hyatt is offering 10% off Hyatt Gift Cards, Gift Checks and Stay Certificates with the code GPGIFT, up to $2000 total. Use your SPG AMEX Business card to pay, and you'll earn an effective 16.5% discount, if you value your SPG points at 2.2 cents each, and this doesn't even include the Hyatt points you earn for stays when paying with the Hyatt gift card or Hyatt check certificate.

You earn additional Hyatt points earned for Hyatt spend: 5 points per $1 for regular Gold Passport, 5.75 points per $1 for Platinum, and 6.5 points per $1 for Diamond spend. If, say, you value Hyatt points at 1.5 cents each, that would give you anywhere from an addtional 7.5% as a regular member to 9.8% as a Diamond

I view this as a better deal than the 10% discount from Milepoint, which only allowed purchases of Hyatt Gift Cards (which can only be used in the U.S., Canada and Caribbean) and you don't have to pay $49.95 for a Milepoint premium membership. In contrast, Hyatt Check Certificates can be used at any Hyatt worldwide to pay for room rates, food and incidental costs that you incur on your guest folio.

Here are the details:

  • Eligible on Hyatt gift cards, Hyatt check certificates and Hyatt stay certificates bought at https://certificates.hyatt.com/
  • Use code GPGIFT (you will need to enter your Hyatt Gold Passport number to apply the code)
  • Maximum amount that may be purchased is $2000 per Hyatt Gold Passport account
  • Purchase by end of 2013
  • $6 shipping and handling per order

Tips

If Buying Hyatt Check Certificates, Buy in Small Increments, Since Charge Must be Equal or More Than Check Being Used

Since Hyatt Check Certificates must be equal or less than the amount on your guest folio that you want to apply them to, I find it helpful to have small denomination Hyatt Check Certificates. Of course, if you know you'll use them to cover food, diving, spa treatments etc. at a long stay at the Park Hyatt Maldives, you can safely go for larger denomination checks–food and incidentals there add up quickly 🙂

Pay with Your SPG AMEX Business Card to Receive 5% Statement Credit via OPEN Savings

As I wrote in Hyatt Gift Cards at Up to 16% Discount-Worth It? you can increase your discount by using your SPG AMEX Business card to pay for the Hyatt Gift Cards or Hyatt Check Certificates, since via AMEX OPEN savings (a savings program for AMEX business cards) you'll receive a 5% statement credit for Hyatt purchases.

Plus, you'll earn SPG points for the purchase, which, despite the major inconvenience of having to wait for points to transfer to airline partners, continue to be worth more per point than other frequent flyer miles and points thanks to the built in 25% transfer bonus when transferring in increments of 20,000 SPG points.

If Buying Hyatt Stay Certificates, Double Check if the Hotel Will Accept the Stay Certificates You're Buying

Hyatt has devalued the Hyatt Stay Certificates, and some Park Hyatt properties don't participate at all, while others only accept the new “Ultimate” Hyatt Stay Certificate, which is $461.11.

Some of the Hyatt Properties That Do NOT Accept Hyatt Stay Certificates (although Hyatt Check Certificates could be used):
  • Park Hyatt Maldives
  • Park Hyatt Milan
  • Ararat Park Hyatt Moscow
  • Park Hyatt New York (will open mid 2014)
  • Park Hyatt Paris Vendome
  • Park Hyatt Shanghai
  • Park Hyatt Sydney
  • Park Hyatt Tokyo
  • Park Hyatt Zurich
  • Grand Hyatt Cannes Hotel Martinez
  • Grand Hyatt Hong Kong
  • Grand Hyatt Tokyo
  • Hyatt Paris Madeleine
  • Hyatt Regency Nice Palais de la Mediterranee
  • Hyatt Zilara Cancun
  • Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos

You Do Earn Hyatt Points for Hyatt Spend Using the Hyatt Gift Cards and Check Certificates (Although Not the Stay Certificates)
The Hyatt gift cards and Hyatt Check Certificates are processed as any other form of payment, so you do earn Hyatt points and elite nights/stay credits when using them. You do NOT earn Hyatt points and credits when you use Hyatt Stay Certificates for stays.

Do you plan to buy any Hyatt Check Certificates, Gift Cards or Stay Certificates with the 10% bonus, plus earn 5% statement credit and SPG points by paying with the SPG AMEX Business card?
