What are the best luxury hotels with free WiFi? One of the major pet peeves of many clients and readers are luxury hotels that charge for Internet access, while cheaper chain hotels often provide it free of charge. You might think that if you're already paying several hundred dollars a night, an Internet fee is small change compared to the room rate. But rather, guests feel angered that, with the amount they're paying, they're being charged extra for Internet. They feel strongly that it should be included, so as not to feel nickeled and dimed.
Here are my recommendations for top luxury hotels that provide free WiFi to all guests, or provide it to those making preferred partner reservations (which you'd want to make anyway, to be able to enjoy VIP perks such as complimentary breakfast, a room upgrade if available, and a hotel or resort credit).
1. Aman Resorts: Free WiFi at All Properties for All Guests
There's much to love about Aman Resorts, from genuine hospitality and truly boutique luxury accommodations, to never having to sign a bill after dining or an activity. Free Internet is just one of the many benefits, and a very appreciated one. I've always had fast Internet even in Aman's remote locations, ranging from Amankila in East Bali to Amanjiwo near Borobudur, as well as Amanjena in Marrakech, Morocco.
2. The Peninsula: Free WiFi at All Properties for All Guests
The Peninsula is a luxury hotel favorite, especially among guests who value tech savvy amenities–there's usually a central control panel by the bed where you can easily and intuitively control the lights, blackout shades, room temperature, and a privacy/do not disturb button. It's fitting, then, that WiFi is included in the rate and complimentary to all guests, regardless of how you booked your room. That said, the best bet is booking with a combination of Peninsula Pen Club and Virtuoso benefits.
3. Sofitel: Complimentary High Speed Internet with Sofitel STEP Program Preferred Partner Reservations
Sofitel has one of the least known preferred partner programs (including by Sofitel's own reservations agents), but the Sofitel STEP Program has some good benefits, including complimentary high speed Internet for all rates and room types, as well as *confirmed upgrade at time of booking* from Classic to Superior or from Superior to Luxury Rooms (note that higher room category upgrades are based on availability at time of check-in).
4. Belmond (Orient Express) Hotels: Complimentary High Speed Internet with Bellini Club Preferred Partner Reservations
Belmond Hotels (formerly Orient Express Hotels) has its own preferred partner program, Bellini Club, and one of the benefits, in addition to a special welcome amenity and complimentary upgrade on availability, is complimentary high speed Internet for all room and suite types.
5. Dorchester Collection: Free Internet Access with Dorchester Diamond Club Reservations
Dorchester Diamond Club offers a great benefit: guaranteed one category upgrade at time of booking (with the exception of 45 Park Lane in London) for guest rooms. For guest room, junior suite and suite reservations, daily unlimited Internet access is included for an unlimited number of devices, for all Diamond Club preferred partner bookings.
6. Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts: Free WiFi for Four Seasons Preferred Partner Reservations
There's plenty of online grousing about Four Seasons WiFi charges, but it's easy to avoid them, if you book with Four Seasons Preferred Partner. All FSPP room reservations include complimentary basic Internet for up to 2 devices, and all FSPP suite reservations include high speed Internet for up to 4 devices, in addition to other benefits: complimentary breakfast for two daily, upgrade if available, and a resort credit. Best of all is that with very few exceptions, Four Seasons Preferred Partner benefits are combinable with 3rd night free, 4th night free, 5th night free etc. offers.
7. Park Hyatt: Free WiFi Starting February 2015 for All Guests
Hyatt just announced free WiFi for all guests for all Hyatt hotels including Park Hyatts, regardless of how they booked the room, starting February 2015. Many Park Hyatts, from the Park Hyatt Paris Vendome to Park Hyatt Maldives, already offer free WiFi to all guests, but it's nice to have a global policy in place. And for Hyatt hotels where premium high speed WiFi is available, Hyatt Gold Passport Diamond and Platinum tier members will receive a complimentary upgrade to the higher speed service.
8. Starwood Luxury Collection: Free WiFi Starting February 2015
SPG has announced that starting February 2, 2015, there will be free WiFi for all SPG Members who book via the Web site, app, or via a Starwood Luxury Preferred Privileges travel advisor, such as TravelSort. This includes the Starwood Luxury Collection, which has some nice boutique properties, although quality can vary dramatically from property to property.
