Ararat Park Hyatt Location and Check-In

The Ararat Park Hyatt is located at 4 Neglinnaya Street (Russian: ул. Неглинная, 4), just a 4 minute walk from Lubyanka metro station (red line, purple line) and a 5 minute walk from Teatralnaya metro station (red, green, dark blue lines). Lubyanka is just 3 stations from Komsomolskaya metro station, the metro station for the Sapsan train to St. Petersburg, so it's easy to reach the Ararat Park Hyatt Moscow by metro if you're traveling lightly.

If you're arriving in Moscow from Domodedovo Airport and taking the Airport Express, you'll arrive at Paveletskaya, and can take the green line just 2 stops to Teatralnaya, so it's also convenient if arriving from DME.

We were welcomed back, which was a nice touch, and soon given the key to our Park King Room on the 9th floor.

Ararat Park Hyatt Park King Room

Our Park King Room was a floor down from the Park Twin Room we stayed at our last visit, so this time we couldn't see any of Red Square, just the surrounding buildings:

As before, there was a fresh fruit welcome amenity, but unfortunately the fruit wasn't in great condition this time, except for the apple. The peach was rotting, while the apricot wasn't ripe.

The bed was impeccably made, but I'm going to have to start asking housekeeping if they have any mattress pads to make the bed more comfortable. Park Hyatt beds in general are firm, but somehow this seemed even firmer than usual, and not much different than sleeping on the floor (see Dear Park Hyatt: Please Make Your Beds More Comfortable).

I do like how easy it is to turn off the lights and automatically raise or lower the blackout shades, via the console by the bed:

The work desk isn't huge, but it has international outlets built in, helpful to international business travelers.

The bathroom is on the small side, with a single sink, but it does have a separate soaking tub and rain shower. The toilet is part of the bathroom, however, unlike, say, at the Four Seasons Moscow, where the toilet is in a separate chamber.

The Illy espresso machine worked perfectly and made an excellent espresso the next morning, handy since we breakfasted in the room to save time before moving to the St. Regis Mosco (review forthcoming) and meeting our guide.

Conservatory Terrace and Swimming Pool

The best views at the Ararat Park Hyatt Moscow are from the outdoor terrace of the Conservatory Lounge. We didn't dine there as we had other dinner plans, but we did enjoy going up for a view of Red Square:

This time we had time to enjoy the swimming pool, or at least my son did. I like the natural light that permeates it, although if you want an even larger pool, the Four Seasons Moscow is a better bet.

The jacuzzi whirlpool wasn't very hot, but this is due to Russian regulations, not the fault of the hotel.

The Verdict

We had a good return stay at The Ararat Park Hyatt Moscow, apart from the poor quality welcome fruit and the very hard bed. Unfortunately, as I get older, I've found I really do need a good night's sleep, so as much as I like many elements of the hotel–the friendly reception and other staff, well cleaned rooms, great views from the Conservatory Terrace–I don't plan to return unless I can be assured that the bed can be made more comfortable.
