Finally--an AMEX Platinum 100,000 bonus points offer that almost anyone can get. The current publicly available bonus is only 25,000 AMEX Membership Rewards points, and even the Mercedes-Benz Platinum AMEX that I recently got is 50,000 bonus points, so this is a lot better, and as good as any current targeted offer I'm aware of.

Now, before you jump in, note that AMEX does in its terms specifically exclude cardholders who have had either this card within the last 12 months or any consumer Zync, Green or Gold Card account within the last 90 days. The AMEX Platinum is a different product from the Mercedes-Benz AMEX Platinum, so you can get bonuses for both. So in my case, I'm looking forward to 150,000 Membership Rewards points after completing spend for both the AMEX Platinum and the Mercedes-Benz Platinum.

Also note there is a hefty $450 annual fee, not waived. The good thing is that you can get $400 of it back with airline fee credit; that's because the airline fee credit is per calendar year, so you can get $200 this year, and $200 next year. See Maximizing the AMEX Platinum Airline Fee Credit

Of course, the reason I'm more focused now on collecting Membership Rewards points is that you can transfer them to Singapore KrisFlyer to book Singapore Airlines First Class, which I just reviewed, and now even Singapore Suites Awards.

But back on point, here's how to get your AMEX Platinum 100,000 bonus points offer:

1. Go to creditcards.com and click on "Offers Matched for You"

AMEX Platinum 100K Bonus Points - Offers Matched for You

2. Enter Your Name and Address

You actually don't have to enter your social security number; I didn't at this point, although you still do need to enter it on the application itself.

3. Verify Your Info

4. View Your Preapproved Offers

The 100,000 AMEX Platinum Offer was right at the top, at least for me:

5. Fill Out the Application

6. View Instant Approval, or Call Reconsideration

To my surprise, given that I'd just applied and been approved for several cards in late December, I was instantly approved. If you're not, don't fret--call AMEX reconsideration at 877-399-3083. See Credit Card Denied? Call These Reconsideration Phone Numbers

Hate to have to admit it, but I can be bought! Lol!! Never wanted to churn credit cards, least of all Amex Platinum, but 100,000 points was too tempting to turn down, so I applied. My previous one expired 12/11, so I just cleared the one year hurdle and was instantly approved. I'm traveling more now so hope to access the airline lounges - only used that perk twice last time.

Peggy, congrats! Completely agree--100,000 bonus points is as good as it gets. A very nice New Year's gift from AMEX :-)

I applied last night and got approved along with screen shots before and after. The only thing I am worried about is AX may not honor the bonus. Your thoughts?
Avatar_60_hilary Hilary Stockton commented 08 Jan 2013
John, While there are never any guarantees, I think AMEX will honor it for those who have applied and been approved; not sure how long it will last though. Definitely good that you took screen shots.

Hi Hilary. It seems the offer is no longer available on the web site you mentioned.

Thanks Nate--have updated post at top to reflect the deal is dead.

Hi Hilary, I just got off the phone with AX rep and she said that I am not eligible for 100k bonus b/c I already have MB AX Plat card. She spoke to Membership reward rep. I thought the two cards are different?
Avatar_60_hilary Hilary Stockton commented 10 Jan 2013
John, sorry to hear that; I haven't been able to confirm my bonus yet, as was told takes 72 hours for reps to see that info, but I plan to appeal to Executive Offices if necessary due to ambiguity of terms. Just spoke to a rep who agreed they are distinct products, and terms indicate you're only ineligible if you've had that product in the last 12 months. Since I read that to be the regular AMEX Platinum, which I've never had, I believe we are entitled to the bonus. Don't give up yet.

I too never had the regular AMEX Platinum card. Luckily, I saved Executive Office email that I had been in contact with 2 years ago.
Avatar_60_hilary Hilary Stockton commented 10 Jan 2013
Fingers crossed--please let me know how it goes! Will also update here once I can confirm my bonus.
Avatar_60_hilary Hilary Stockton commented 11 Jan 2013
Just wanted to confirm for John and any other readers who also had the Mercedes-Benz Platinum: I called and confirmed I'll receive 100,000 points after spending $3000 on the card. If you're being told differently, I would definitely point out that the language says "if you've had *this* product" and that you understood it to mean this exact card.
User_avatar_default john s. commented 11 Jan 2013
I just called and agent said nothing she can do beside get someone else to look into it.
User_avatar_default john s. commented 11 Jan 2013
I just got off the phone with a different agent and he said that the 100k bonus code is attached to my account, I should receive them after completing my spending requirement. Thanks Hilary for you help!
