This Villa Copenhagen review and photos are from our recent stay. See how it compares to Nimb Hotel and Hotel d'Angleterre by reading our linked reviews. Villa Copenhagen opened in 2020 in the former Central Post & Telegraph Head Office, preserving the building's Baroque Revival-style façade during the three-year renovation.
.
Villa Copenhagen Location and Check-In
Villa Copenhagen is located at Tietgensgade 35-39, across from Copenhagen's Central Train Station, and a 5-minute walk to Tivoli. It's less than 20 minutes to get to Copenhagen Airport (CPH) by non-stop train.
You enter through an airy atrium-style lobby, with check-in on the left. Fortunately there wasn't a wait when I was there, but I'd hate to be there if a large group was checking in, which is quite possible given the nearly 400 rooms and suites.
.
Villa Copenhagen Superior Room, Pool View
We recommend reserving at least a Superior Room (215-247 sq. ft.) since Standard Rooms are truly tiny, at just 183-215 sq. ft. Superior Rooms are available with either 1 king or queen bed, or two “twin” beds, but keep in mind that the twin beds are right next to each other, unlike the typical U.S. set-up where the beds are separated.
.
As seen in the above photos, there's no work desk, but there is a small round table with chairs, a padded bench, and high ceilings that help (somewhat) to compensate for the rather small window. I paid extra to have a view of the outdoor pool, not so much for the view itself, but because most of the regular rooms are on the side of the hotel closest to the train station, and more subject to noise.
.
The Superior Room's bathroom is small, with only one small sink, and what I liked least is that there's no door separating the toilet from the rest of the bathroom. There was also an annoying dripping in the shower that I discovered after check-in that I couldn't fix on my own. I advised the Front Desk, and fortunately it was fixed by the time I returned later that evening.
.
Don't expect complimentary slippers here; Villa Copenhagen sells Indosole slippers for DKK 139 (~$20) per pair as a sustainability initiative.
.
Fortunately there's no charge for the illy espresso and tea bags, although you will, of course, be charged for mini bar consumption.

Villa Copenhagen Breakfast
TravelSort Clients enjoy complimentary daily breakfast from the buffet, located in the former Post & Telegraph Office's sorting room. Breakfast is served Mondays-Fridays 6:30-10am, and Saturdays-Sundays 7-11am.
.
Complimentary cherry, apple, and ginger energy shots welcomed diners:
.
The cold buffet included whole fresh fruit (bananas, apples, pears); cut fresh fruit (pineapple, watermelon); salad fixings; as well as glass ramekins of yogurt and muesli, cheeses, smoked salmon, and cold cuts.
.
There were also cereals, nuts, and pastries from the hotel's Rug Bakery.
.
There was also an omelet station, and my vegetarian omelet topped with cheese was very good.
.
We enjoyed the fresh fruit and smoked salmon, but I was a bit disappointed by the almond croissant; it wasn't twice baked, with a frangipane topping, the way I'm used to with ones in France or in better bakeries in the U.S.
.
Espresso drinks are from a machine, so don't expect too much; there are plenty of excellent coffee shops all over Copenhagen, however, for a proper barista-made coffee.
.
Villa Copenhagen Outdoor Pool
Villa Copenhagen's heated outdoor 82-foot (25 meter) lap pool is open daily from 7am-10pm Sunday-Thursday, and 7am-11pm Friday-Saturday, with children welcome 7am-7pm daily. Note that unlike most luxury hotels, guests are only provided 1 hour complimentary per day; each extra hour costs DKK 95 per person. Guests also need to pre-book their hour, in order to avoid overcrowding the pool area (there are nearly 400 rooms and suites).
All guests are also asked to shower before entering the pool.

The Verdict
Villa Copenhagen is very centrally located, by the Copenhagen Central Station, and provides a good 4-star option for guests who are fine with a more basic stay, without the luxury touches that Nimb Hotel offers. Note that you'll need to pay extra for a room that overlooks the swimming pool, but we recommend selecting that option to avoid potential train noise. You'll also need to reserve a time to use the swimming pool and a time for breakfast, so this hotel is best for those who are fine with this level of planning instead of spontaneity.
