The Tokyo Station Hotel Location and Getting There

As its name implies, The Tokyo Station Hotel is located right at Tokyo Station, so it couldn't be more convenient for guests arriving or departing Tokyo Station. In fact, if you provide advance notice, you can request hotel staff to meet you on your train's platform to escort you to the hotel. The only other Tokyo hotels that provide this service complimentary are the nearby Four Seasons Tokyo at Marunouchi and the Shangri-La Tokyo. Our stay was before the holidays, so the lobby was festively decorated.

Palace View Premium Twin Room

Palace View Premium Rooms (559 sq. ft.) come with two twin beds (no king bedded option; most of the guests at The Tokyo Station Hotel are Japanese, and Japanese couples generally prefer two separate beds rather than one king bed). These rooms are located on the second or third floors.

They look out onto the Tokyo Station promenade, and beyond it, the Imperial Palace gardens.

The bathroom is roomy and with a separate toilet chamber, although with a single sink. As is typical in Japanese luxury hotels, there's a wet room with both a rain shower and soaking tub. It's customary to first cleanse oneself in the shower before soaking in the bathtub.

Breakfast at The Atrium Restaurant

Guests can enjoy buffet breakfast at The Atrium restaurant, a pleasant light-filled space that is exclusively available to in-house guests. It opens at 6am, with last breakfast orders at 10:30am.

The buffet offers a variety of Western and Japanese options,

I preferred the Japanese breakfast items, particularly the crab, chirashi, unagi (eel) with rice, broiled fish, and accompaniments such as hijiki seaweed salad. For guests with allergies, there are helpful allergy icons on the sign card by each dish.

I concluded with some tasty yogurt, bircher muesli, and a cappuccino.

The Verdict

As one of three hotels where staff, will, on request, escort guests to or from the correct train platform in Tokyo Station, The Tokyo Station Hotel is ideal for first-time visitors to Japan who are arriving/departing Tokyo via shinkansen. Highlights for us were the convenient location, helpful and polite staff, and the many Japanese selections on the breakfast buffet, as well as the light-filled Atrium restaurant where breakfast is served. We liked our Palace View Room, although wished that the bed's mattress had been a more comfortable pillowtop as it was too firm.

We stayed here for just one night last August as a layover point between arriving on the Shinkansen from Kyoto, and departing the next morning from HND for SIN. Of all of the 4 Tokyo Station hotels this is definitely the most convenient. We were originally booked for one night at the Grand Hyatt, but I felt that with the limited time we had we could use the TS Hotel to quickly and conveniently visit Ginza and surrounding areas quickly, then the next morning take the express monorail train directly to HND. It turned out to be the right choice… Read more »
