The Berkeley Hotel in London is a sister hotel of The Connaught and Claridge's, and is next door to The Emory, an all-suite luxury hotel that opened in 2024. It's centrally located at Wilton Place in Knightsbridge, next to Hyde Park, a short walk from the Hyde Park Corner Underground, Harrods and other shopping and dining, and walking distance to Mayfair and Buckingham Palace.

Berkeley Room and Hyde Park Penthouse

We stayed in a Berkeley Room (431 sq. ft./40 sq. m.) with two twin beds; it's also available with one king bed, and if needed an additional bed can be added to accommodate a third guest.

Berkeley Rooms can face Wilton Place, St. Paul's Church, or Hyde Park; we request Hyde Park views for all our clients, as these are the nicest views.

The marble bathroom in Berkeley Rooms is beautiful, its elegance enhanced with a fresh orchid blossom by the soaking tub.

The rain shower worked well . . . until it didn't. My teen, prone to long showers, somehow didn't notice that the shower wasn't draining properly until he stepped out and noticed that the entire bathroom floor was flooded. In fact, a good part of the room flooded, which can't have been great for the wooden floors. We immediately called Housekeeping, and both a Housekeeping Team and Engineering Team soon came to our room to fix the problem. By the time we returned from dinner, everything was again immaculate. Still, I would have liked to have had some kind of service recovery given the inconvenience. We didn't request anything, since we were staying on an industry rate, but had it been a client, we'd have requested appropriate service recovery.

The welcome amenities were among the nicest we've received in any London luxury hotel; not only was there an impressive bowl of fresh fruit that included passion fruit and Kiwano melon, there was a chilled bottle of Laurent Perrier champagne (as non-champagne drinkers we ended up asking if we could swap this out for juice, and the F&B Team obliged with our favorite, fresh squeezed pineapple juice).

But the piece de resistance was a vanilla flower tart from Cedric Grolet Patisserie, a decadent dessert of butter crust, with layers of rich praline and vanilla milk jam topped with white chocolate vanilla ganache that tasted even better than it looked.

Another welcome touch is that all juices and soft drinks in the mini bar are complimentary.

We were also able to view a Hyde Park Penthouse. These are 1356 sq. ft. (126 sq. m.), with an open plan living area and dining room that seats up to six, plus master bedroom, all of which enjoy a view of Hyde Park. It also has a spacious terrace with a fire pit and table that seats four for al fresco meals. It can be connected to an additional room to form a two bedroom suite, perfect for a family or for two couples traveling together.

Guests staying at The Berkeley have access to Surrenne wellness facilities at The Emory, which include a gym equipped with TechnoGym, Peloton, and other exercise equipment; Surrenne Studio for dance, pilates, and yoga classes; an indoor pool; spa treatment rooms, and spa cafe.

The Berkeley also has a rooftop pool, a rarity in a country often given to moaning about the weather. But during warm summer months (and perhaps increasingly in spring and early fall, with the way global warming is going), it can be delightful, with stunning views over Hyde Park.

The Verdict

Overall we enjoyed our stay at The Berkeley. We loved the beautiful interior of our Berkeley Room, and that it overlooked Hyde Park, as well as the lavish welcome amenities, particularly the Cedric Grolet vanilla flower tart. We also enjoyed the complimentary non-alcoholic mini bar drinks, and since we don't drink champagne, the F&B Team was kind enough to swap out the champagne for fresh pressed pineapple juice, which we appreciated. The view from the rooftop pool deck was also stunning.

It was disappointing that our bathroom shower drain was so clogged that the bathroom and even parts of the bedroom were flooded; seems like something that Housekeeping should have been attentive to prior to a guest checking into the room. That said, once alerted, the Housekeeping and Engineering Teams did clean it up and the room was in perfect condition when we returned from dinner.
