Getting to the St. Regis Maldives Vommuli and St. Regis Maldives Seaplane Lounge
The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli is located in the Dhaalu Atoll, about a 45 minute seaplane flight from Male (MLE) which is served by many international flights. Typically our U.S.-based clients fly via one of the Middle Eastern airlines: Qatar vis Doha DOH, Emirates via Dubai DXB, or Etihad via Abu Dhabi AUH. Sometimes clients fly via Singapore SIN.
Since there can be a delay between the international flight's arrival and the seaplane's departure, most luxury resorts provide a seaplane lounge, and the St. Regis Maldives is no exception. There's air conditioned indoor seating as well as an outdoor balcony, and complimentary drinks and light fare can be ordered.

I sampled a refreshing iced tea and a tasty (and very spicy) smoked tuna savory pie.
.
There was a shower room, but at least during our visit the lounge seemed a bit overwhelmed and so staff hadn't managed to tidy it.

Overwater St. Regis Suite
We had been upgraded to an Overwater St. Regis Suite, which is 3034 Sq. Ft. (282 Sq. M.). There's a spacious open dining and living area. The dining table also served well as a work desk for all of us.
.
The suite has a bedroom that closes off completely from the living area, where there's a sofa bed. While one rollaway bed is possible, at time of writing it costs $330 per night. The way the sofa bed was made up was too short for our son, so it's best for families with a younger, shorter child.
.
On the coffee table were welcome amenities: fresh fruit and some cakes. Fine, although we've had much nicer welcome amenities at The Nautilus Maldives and Cheval Blanc Randheli Maldives.
.
.
The bathroom is reached through either the bedroom or the walk-in closet/vanity behind the bedroom. It has a soaking tub overlooks the pool deck, double sinks, a glass enclosed rain shower, and separate toilet chamber. Unfortunately, form took precedence over function and the door to the toilet is also glass instead of a more practical solid wood door.
.
Similarly, the walk-in closet with vanity is spacious, but there isn't solid separation between it and the bedroom, so light seeps into the bedroom when the closet light is on.
.
The outdoor deck is spacious, with a private swimming pool, but we made little use of it because the pool is unheated and was too cold for us (it was often in the shade).

The Verdict
The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli has roughly triple the rooms of The Nautilus, with all the advantages and disadvantages that go with that. It offers larger accommodations and more breakfast buffet, dining and spa options, although there was less personalization and also more communication snafus and service missteps. We enjoyed the spacious Overwater St. Regis Suite, with its separate bedroom, master bathroom, and half bathroom, although the couch made up as a bed and even the extra child bed brought for our son were too short for him, so definitely check that an extra bed will be long enough for your child or third guest.
Snorkeling was good once we made our way out of the shallow area by our villa to the drop-off, where there were large table corals and schools of fusiliers and other fish.
Dining experiences were decidedly mixed. The breakfast buffet was extensive, with a delicious duck confit waffle with egg prepared on request and great Maldivian and Middle Eastern options, but we found the breakfast pastries and Chinese food underwhelming. Similarly, Orientale was our worst dinner, while Indian Butter Chicken at ALBA was very good, and the Italian pizzas at Crust & Craft were our favorite casual option.
My husband had a very good acupuncture session and we had excellent couple's massages at the Iridium Spa, but we weren't enamored of the Blue Hole hydrotherapy pool, because it was the same temperature as the sea and for our taste, too cold to relax in. We would have preferred a hot tub.
