SPG Extra 10K Bonus Offer for Starwood Business AMEX (Targeted)

SPG 10K Bonus Offer for Starwood Business AMEX

A 10K SPG Bonus Offer is Targeted to some Starwood Preferred Guest Business Card AMEX members. To see if you're eligible, go to this link. Here are the offer details:

  • Earn an additional 5,000 Starpoints after you spend $5,000 on qualifying purchases
  • Earn an additional 5,000 Starpoints after you spend an additional $5,000 on qualifying purchases, for a maximum of 10,000 Starpoints.
  • Spend must be made on your Starwood Preferred Guest Business Credit Card starting from the date that you complete your registration and ending on 12/15/16

If you're targeted, this is a good promotion to take advantage of for any spend where:

  • You're not earning a great category bonus (e.g. 5X for restaurants with your Chase Freedom this Q3 2016, 5X on Internet, cell phone and office supply store spend with your Ink Plus, 3X on all travel and dining with your Chase Sapphire Reserve, etc.)
  • You're not meeting minimum spend for a new credit card
In other words, otherwise unbonused spend, such as a doctor's bill, home renovations etc., assuming they take AMEX without charging you an additional service fee.

FAQ

How Long Will It Take for the Bonus Starpoints to Post?

Per the terms, it can take up to 12 weeks after the end of each month in which the threshold was met to receive the bonus Starpoints. To be eligible to receive the bonus Starpoints, your account must be active, in good standing, and not in default at the time of bonus fulfillment.

How Do I Get Targeted for this Bonus?

Unfortunately AMEX has already decided if you're targeted or not for this bonus; if you can't register for it online you're not targeted, unless you receive a snail mail offer with an offer code that allows you to register successfully.

What is a Starpoint Worth?

SPG Starpoints are more valuable than most other frequent flyer miles and points, due to their many airline transfer partners (see SPG Airline Partners: Transfer Starwood Points to Miles), and the fact that you can transfer 20,000 Starpoints into 25,000 airline frequent flyer miles for many frequent flyer programs. Because of this, I value a Starpoint at a minimum of 2.5 cents per point, so 10,000 Starpoints would be $250.

What Are Good Uses of Starpoints?

In particular, I like to top up Lufthansa Miles & More accounts by transferring Starpoints, in order to book Lufthansa First Class awards in advance, and clients with large Starpoints balances sometimes will transfer to JAL Mileage Bank for Emirates A380 First Class awards that are more lucrative than using Alaska Mileage Plan, after Alaska Mileage Plan's Emirates award chart devaluation.

Starpoints can also fill in the gap if you've already exhausted your Citi ThankYou points and AMEX Membership Rewards points when transferring to Singapore KrisFlyer (since these points are worth less) and just need to top up to book a KrisFlyer award. Similarly, they can top up your account for Aeroplan, Asia Miles, British Airways Executive Club, Air France Flying Blue, American AAdvantage, and many other frequent flyer programs. But don't transfer to United MileagePlus, since the ratio is 2:1; for that, use your Chase Ultimate Rewards points.
