The Shisui, a Luxury Collection Hotel, is now open in Nara, Japan's ancient capital in the 8th century, before Kyoto became the new capital. The hotel's name, Shisui, is inspired by the purple trunks and green leaves (“Shikan Suiyou”) of Nara's scenic views, a draw since ancient times. The hotel's classical Japanese garden was once part of the grounds of Kofuku-ji temple, the family temple of the aristocratic Fujiwara clan, which was established in Nara in 710 AD.

Shisui Nara Location
The hotel is located at 62 Noborioji-cho, on the western side of Nara Park, walking distance from UNESCO World Heritage sites Kasuga Taisha Shrine, Kofuku-ji Temple, and Todai-ji Temple. Or for a peaceful, sometimes eerie walk, head to the Kasugayama Primeval Forest after visiting the Kasuga Taisha Shrine, about a 25 minute walk from the shrine. Easily accessible for visitors coming from Osaka, the hotel is about a 45 minute drive from Osaka Itami International Airport (KIX) and a 10-minute walk from Kintetsu-Nara train station, connected by train to Kyoto and Osaka in 35 minutes and 45 minutes respectively.

The hotel offers 43 guest rooms and suites with floor to ceiling windows that look out on the historic gardens and greenery, with select rooms featuring views of nearby Mount Wakakusa.
