Shangri-La Kyoto Plans to Open in 2024, per Lim Beng Chee, Shangri-La Group’s Chief Executive Officer. The new hotel will be Shangri-La's second hotel in Japan, after the Shangri-La Tokyo, and will be the fifth true 5-star luxury hotel in Kyoto, after the Four Seasons Kyoto, Ritz-Carlton Kyoto, Aman Kyoto and Park Hyatt Kyoto. Just 8 years ago Kyoto didn't have a single 5-star luxury hotel, but now it has some of the top luxury hotel brands and is still adding more.
Shangri-La has partnered with Japan's Samty Group, which isn't well known in the international hotel space since its projects to date have tended to be in smaller areas in the broader Kansai region.

Shangri-La Kyoto Location
The new Shangri-La Kyoto will be located just north of Nijo Castle, about 2.5 miles (4 km.), a 12-14 minute drive, from Kyoto Station. This puts the hotel's location within a 15 minute walking distance of the Kyoto Imperial Palace and Kyoto National Garden, and about a half hour's walk from Nishiki Market, but other iconic sites and walking areas such as Ginkaku-ji, Kinkaku-ji, Fushimi Inari Shrine, Kodaiji, Gion, and Higashiyama will be a drive away.
