The Verdict
We really enjoyed our stay at the Shangri-La Tokyo, and it's one of the best luxury hotels for first-time visitors to Tokyo who will be arriving and/or departing Tokyo by train thanks to the hotel's location just steps from Tokyo Station. Even better, the hotel is one of only three Tokyo luxury hotels (the others are the Four Seasons Tokyo at Marunouchi and the Tokyo Station Hotel) that offers a complimentary meet & greet service to assist you from your arrival train track to the hotel, and also from the hotel to the correct train track for your departure.
While weather wasn't the best during our visit, I loved the natural light flooding into our corner room, a Premier Room, and also into the incredible 2-storey open plan living and dining room of the Presidential Suite. The suite also features a Super King bed, so wide that you could fit a small family on it, although the private spa room could be repurposed as an extra bedroom, and the suite can also connect to a Deluxe Room, if needed.
The Horizon Club isn't as large as, say, the Ritz-Carlton Tokyo Club, but it always had ample seating when we visited, and the offerings were high quality. I was especially impressed with breakfast, namely the Eggs Royale with lobster and caviar, organic fruit jams, and the superb mango kouign amann (although the pain aux raisins was too dry).
The swimming pool on the 29th floor is lovely and well attended, although there's no jacuzzi. There is a jacuzzi tub in the couple's suite at CHI Spa and in the Presidential Suite, however.
