Review: Marine Room, Turks and Caicos

Review: Marine Room, Turks and Caicos

.

This review of the Marine Room in Turks and Caicos is from our recent site inspection visit to a number of resorts. We have all of them fresh in our mind, and are ready to advise TravelSort Clients considering a luxury resort or private island stay in Turks and Caicos.

The Marine Room Restaurant is located upstairs, to the right of the sign.

Marine Room Location and Hours

The Marine Room restaurant is located directly across from Bight Park on Lower Bight Road, and catty-corner from Wymara Resort, making it an excellent off-resort dining option for Wymara guests. The restaurant exclusively serves dinner nightly, from 5-10pm, and advance reservations are recommended; it can be reserved via OpenTable. I recommend reserving one of the indoor tables for the air conditioning, unless you have a strong preference to dine outdoors.

Marine Room Menu and Food

The Marine Room serves Italian cuisine, with island influences (for example the Conch Chowder, Yellow Tail Crudo).

After I'd placed my order, I was brought some homemade focaccia and tuna spread, garnished with a bit of pesto. The focaccia was warm and so good when paired with the tuna that I enjoyed all of it. There was also Greek olive oil for dipping, for purists or for those who don't care for tuna.

While there were many tempting choices, as a fan of both squid ink pasta and seafood, I ordered the Tagliolini al Nero ai Frutti di Mare and wasn't disappointed. It was served piping hot, with the pasta cooked perfectly al dente and the seafood fresh and flavorful. It was just the right amount of food and not heavy at all, so ideal if you want to leave dinner invigorated and not feeling heavy.

I do enjoy a bit of spice, so I asked for some red pepper, which my server was happy to bring me, along with some parmesan cheese. For me, these were the perfect enhancers.

After finishing, a dessert menu was offered:

I didn't have room for one of the plated desserts, so after checking whether the ice creams and sorbets are made in-house (they are), I selected the Pistachio Ice Cream. Good move–it was the best I've had since an excellent pistachio gelato in Rome a few years ago. My server told me it was her favorite flavor from the menu too.

The Verdict

I enjoyed my dinner at The Marine Room, which was the only air conditioned restaurant we dined at during our stay. Given how warm it can be, even in the early evening, we found that alone refreshing (it also meant that there were no issues with flies, as there were at several other places), along with the distant view of the ocean. The complimentary warm, homemade focaccia with tuna spread was delightful, and the squid ink seafood pasta was fresh and delicious. The homemade pistachio gelato was fantastic; it wasn't as smooth as more commercially made gelato, but I actually enjoyed the texture of the pistachios. Service was very good for the most part, although lagged a bit at the end due to how busy the restaurant became. Prices are as expected for fine dining in Turks and Caicos; just keep in mind that even though the menu states that gratuities are not included, there's already an included 10% service charge, so take that into account when tipping.
