Rosewood Hotels are Planning New Hotels in Sao Paulo, Brazil; Yangon, Myanmar; Hoi An, Vietnam, and Kona, on the Big Island of Hawaii, in addition to reopening Little Dix Bay in the British Virgin Islands later this year.
Rosewood, which has been owned as a subsidiary by Hong Kong based Chow Tai Fook Enterprises since 2011, has ambitious expansion plans, which include new properties in Vienna, Venice, Costa Rica and Siem Reap in 2022; Edinburgh, Munich, Chengdu, Shenzhen and Hermana Mayor in the Philippines in 2023; and Shanghai, Taipei, and Ningbo in 2024. But in the shorter term, here's a glimpse of Rosewood's reopenings and new openings:
Rosewood Little Dix Bay, Reopening End of 2019
Following Hurricane Irma, Rosewood Little Dix Bay closed to undergo a complete renovation, the most extensive since it was opened by Laurence Rockefeller in 1964. All guest rooms and suites are being redesigned, and the three outdoor restaurants will also be reinvented.
Rosewood Yangon, Myanmar: Opening October 2019
The Rosewood Yangon is now open for reservations from October 1, 2019. It's located in the New Law Courts building, constructed 1927-31, which in previous incarnations served as the Police Commissioner's Office, the Parliament's Chamber of Nationalities, and the headquarters of the Burmese Socialist Party.
The Rosewood Yangon offers 205 rooms and suites, with the entry level Executive Room already a spacious 484 square feet, and suites ranging from the 753 square feet Executive Suite to the 3347 square feet 2 bedroom Ayeyarwady House, with a residentially styled living room with dining table, kitchen, and its own private elevator.
Rosewood São Paulo, Brazil: 2020
The Rosewood São Paulo will be Rosewood's first hotel in South America and will be located in Cidade Matarazzo, part of a collection of elegant, well preserved buildings built in the early 20th century. The hotel is being designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel, and will feature 151 guestrooms and 122 suites. Dining venues will include 2 restaurants, one with an outdoor veranda overlooking the hotel's gardens, as well as a bar and caviar lounge. There will be both a rooftop pool and a main pool on the hotel grounds, fitness center, spa, and adjacent retail stores, screening room, and music studio.
Rosewood Hoi An, Vietnam: 2021
The Rosewood Hoi An is to open just south of Hoi An in 2021, one of the more intimate Rosewood properties, with 70 guestrooms and 30 residences nestled in this beachfront resort. It will be wellness-focused, with the Asaya Spa offering 14 treatment rooms, a wellness lounge, fitness facilities, yoga pavilion, and indoor and outdoor hydrotherapy pools. It will also appeal to golfers, since an 18 hole championship golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones II and country club will be next to the resort.
Kona Village, a Rosewood Resort, Hawaii: 2022
The original Kona Village, a favorite getaway of Steve Jobs, was devastated in 2011 by a tsunami. Rosewood will be reopening the Kona Villa Resort, on 81 acres of land located just north of Four Seasons Hualalai, in 2022. It will essentially be a brand new resort, with 150 stand alone guest hales (homes), although the much loved Shipwreck Bar and Talk Story Bar will be faithfully recreated. Several new restaurants, a Sense Spa, fitness center, multiple pools and a Cultural Center will also be part of the resort.
