How Long for SPG Starpoints to Transfer to AAdvantage Miles?

How Long for SPG Starpoints to Transfer to AAdvantage to Book Cathay Pacific First Class?

How long do SPG points take to transfer to AAdvantage? This is an especially relevant question as we get down to the wire for booking Cathay Pacific First Class, JAL First Class, JAL Sky Suite Business Class, Etihad A380 First ApartmentQantas A380 First Class, and other awards before the AAdvantage Award Chart Devaluation goes into effect on Tuesday, March 22.

As I mentioned in SPG Points Transfer Times to Airlines, the official SPG points transfer time is 2-4 business days, better than the previous official transfer time of 7-10 business days. Obviously 2 business days is far better than 4, especially if you put an AAdvantage award ticket on hold a few days ago. Fortunately, SPG points usually transfer to AAdvantage sooner than 4 business days: either on Sundays or Wednesdays. So if you transfer today, you can hope to see AAdvantage miles in your account on Wednesday, March 16, and if you transfer SPG points on Thursday or Friday you can hope to see miles in your account on Sunday March 20, although of course these transfer times are not guaranteed.

As a data point, I transferred Starpoints to my AAdvantage account last Friday, March 11, and the AAdvantage miles were in my account by Sunday morning.

Other recent examples of SPG points transfers posting as AAdvantage miles on Sunday, via FlyerTalk:

  • Requested SPG points transfer on Friday 10am, AAdvantage miles posted Sunday 4am (frugaltraveller0487)
  • Requested SPG points transfer on Saturday Feb. 27, AAdvantage miles posted Sunday Feb. 28 in the morning (FT-hss)
  • Requested SPG points transfer on 8pm EST Friday Feb. 26, AAdvantage miles posted by 6am Sunday Feb. 28 (tng-11)

Don't forget to ensure your names on your SPG account and AAdvantage account match, and to transfer in increments of 20,000 SPG points (but not more than 60,000 per day) in order to receive the 25% transfer bonus. So a 60,000 point transfer becomes 75,000 AAdvantage miles.

If you've recently transferred Starpoints to AAdvantage miles, how long did the transfer take, and what day of the week did the miles post to your AAdvantage account?
