This luxury hotel is located in a city of 9 million, but once ensconced in one of its residential-style rooms or suites, especially those overlooking the park, it's utterly tranquil. The lobby flowers, which included bird of paradise, were a harbinger of good things to come.

We were upgraded to a room with park views. There's something incredibly relaxing about gazing out at trees and greenery.

On this occasion it was two of us, but for a small family of three, it's hard to beat the gorgeous Park Suites, where the living room and bedroom both overlook the park.

There were equally luxurious welcome amenities. We were delighted to find not only a lovely array of fresh fruits, ranging from grapes to an incredibly juicy plum to a dragonfruit (!), but also a gorgeous vanilla bean cream tart with a rich praline center and addictively crunchy crust, made by the famed patisserie in the hotel's lobby, a significant draw in its own right. There was a perfectly chilled bottle of Laurent-Perrier champagne, although since I don't drink champagne, I gave it back to F&B, who were kind enough to offer an alternative drink of choice; they were happy to satisfy my craving for freshly pressed pineapple juice.

In the morning, my teen dug into a hearty breakfast of eggs, sausage, bacon, toast, and local delicacies, while I enjoyed a berry yogurt bee pollen smoothie, along with scrambled ages with cheddar and broccoli, accompanied by roasted mushrooms. There was great attention to detail, the mushrooms enhanced by a light sprinkling of house-made herb salt.

There are four floors of fitness and wellness, including a top-notch gym, two different fitness studio rooms with fitness classes, personal trainers, spa, spa cafe, indoor pool, steam room and sauna.

On a lovely summer day it's hard to beat, however, the magnificent rooftop pool, with its park and city views:
