Gold Restaurant Review, Burlington Vermont

.

Gold Restaurant in Burlington, Vermont isn't in the main downtown area, but is worth seeking out for one of the best dinners in Burlington, especially for the price.

.

Gold Restaurant Location, Hours, and Reservations

Gold Restaurant is located at 294 N Winooski Ave. in Burlington's Old North End, referred to as O.N.E., which is about a 22-minute walk from Burlington City Hall and the Church Street Marketplace area. Gold Restaurant Menu and Food

Gold Restaurant's menu can be described as modern Italian, with local and regional influences (hence the Smoked Bluefish plate, Cabot Creamery Mad River Reserve cheese in the Arancini, and PEI mussels).

Our first dinner there was on a Wednesday, when cocktails and mocktails are 50% off, so I tried a Watermelon Shrub Spritz, which was wonderfully refreshing on a warm summer evening. My husband enjoyed a glass of Sauvignon Blanc.

Fresh bread lovers should definitely order the warm, homemade focaccia with extra virgin herbed olive oil. The top was nicely crusty, with herbs and coarse sea salt, with a fluffy interior.

Our next dish was perhaps my favorite of the entire menu: a generous portion of crispy fried brussels sprouts with citrus honey, pickled chiles, walnuts, and cheese. On the menu, the cheese was listed as chevre, but on both occasions it was a kind of blue cheese, which also paired well. The first time we got it with the optional crispy prosciutto, which my husband especially loved, the second time we forgot to add it, but it was still delicious.

The Watermelon Salad was delightfully summery, with cucumber, roasted sweet corn, basil, feta, and a citrus vinaigrette:

We also shared the Smoked Bluefish plate, a quintessential East Coast summer favorite enlivened by a chili crisp sauce.

My husband enjoyed his Summer Ravioli, stuffed with a mixture of sweet pea, corn, and pesto, so much that he ordered it again on our second visit:

I chose a special of Steelhead Trout atop gnochetti pasta with vegetables. Our first visit's version was the best, as it came with a wonderfully crisp skin; the second time, for some reason, the filet was skinless.

On a second visit with our teen, we also tried the Pork Tenderloin. It was cooked well, although I would have loved for it to be just a tad moister. The jerk-spiced peach chutney was a lovely accompaniment, and the parmesan and brown butter smashed fingerling potatoes were tasty, although I'd have preferred some crispy roasted potatoes instead.

The Verdict

We knew from the menu to expect Italian cuisine at Gold Restaurant. What we found was a hidden gem, and our top pick for dinner of the several places we tried. Highlights were the crispy brussels sprouts with pancetta, the fresh focaccia, the summer ravioli, and the special of steelhead trout, although we truly enjoyed everything we ordered.
