Can you believe it's already the end of February? I scarcely can, but it is, and there are several deals expiring today, tomorrow and later in March. Here's a quick roundup in case you've been meaning to take advantage of any of these offers:
1. Last Day: Discounted United MileagePlus Partner Business Class Awards
Today is the last day to book discounted United MileagePlus partner business class awards, such as Lufthansa New Business Class, SWISS business class, Asiana Business Class, ANA Business Class, Air Canada Business Class, Turkish Business Class, etc. for the same price as you normally pay to fly on United metal. Ever since the United Award Chart Devaluation a year ago, there have been two separate award charts, one for United and a more expensive award chart for Star Alliance partner airlines. This has made awards such as Lufthansa First Class and Asiana Suites ridiculously expensive for many, but at least, if you book by today, there's a better deal with certain business class awards.
2. Expires March 1: 60K Ink Plus
While I don't go out of my way to earn United miles due to the devaluation, I do still highly value Chase Ultimate Rewards points for transfers to Singapore KrisFlyer and to Korean Air Skypass (now that Ultimate Rewards transfers to Korean have returned). A good way to earn Ultimate Rewards points is via Chase Sapphire Preferred and Ink Plus signup bonuses, and through tomorrow March 1, the Ink Plus signup bonus, which is usually 50,000 points, is 60,000 points.
3. By March 14: Activate Chase Freedom 5X for Grocery Stores
Another good way to earn Ultimate Rewards points is via category spend, particularly 5X points for Ink Plus categories such as cell phone, cable and Internet bills and office supply store spend, as well as the 5X rotating categories of the Chase Freedom. I was especially happy to see grocery stores return as a 5X category for 2015. Unlike many New Yorkers who use their oven as additional storage space, we actually cook most of our meals and have significant grocery spend. Yes, we already take advantage of 5X on All Whole Foods Spend, but it's great to also earn 5X on Trader Joe's, including wine (by buying gift cards and redeeming them at the wine store).
Or if you don't have much grocery spend, simply front load your spend by buying gift cards that you can use later in the year.
4. By March 31: Register for Hyatt 20% Points Refund on Redemptions
While I personally won't be using this offer as none of the Hyatts I'd have considered are offering Cash + Points rates for my dates (or even for the entire summer) this could come in handy if you do find good value Hyatt Gold Passport award redemptions that work for you. Even if you don't currently have a Hyatt Visa, if you apply for one now you'll have time to receive it and be able to register it by the end of March for this offer.
5. 10X AA Miles at JC Penney + 20% Off $100 or More with Code 2SPECIAL
We do most of our shopping on Amazon with 5X and rarely shop at department stores, even online ones, but if you find JC Penney prices are comparable, you may want to take advantage of 10X AAdvantage miles via the AAdvantage eShopping portal and also get 20% off a $100 or more purchase with the code 2SPECIAL.
