The Chase Freedom 5X Categories for Q1 2020 are Gas Stations, Internet, Cable, Phone Services and Select Streaming Services, per the Chase Freedom 5X calendar:
.
Gas stations may be a decent category for customers in most of the U.S. Here in Manhattan, however, where it can cost as much to park a car as people elsewhere spend on rent, gas stations are about as good a bonus category as space travel.
As for Internet, cable and phone services, these categories already earn 5X for us with our Chase Ink Cash card, which we can transfer to Ultimate Rewards partners since we also have the Chase Sapphire Reserve.
As for select streaming services, it's more or less a throwaway category–how much does the average person spend on Hulu and Netflix in a 3 month period?
All around unimpressive, so we won't even bother activating our 5X on our 4 Chase Freedom cards for Q1, although certainly others may find the categories more worthwhile, depending on their spend patterns and other credit cards.
In the meantime, today, December 14, is your last day to activate the Q4 2019 categories of department stores, PayPal and Chase Pay.
