Fly to New Zealand in Fiji Airways A350 Flat Bed Business Class for 55K Miles each way using Alaska miles. New Zealand is one of our and our clients' favorite destinations, but it's notoriously expensive to get to in business class, with the nonstop flight typically over $7000-8000 per person roundtrip, and even the least expensive one way Business Class award often 200,000 United MileagePlus miles or more each way (much more rarely 100K miles each way in United Polaris Business Class).
Of course, flying Fiji Airways Business Class does mean a connection in Fiji Nadi (NAN), increasing the journey time to ~18 hours from 13.5 hours, but the savings of 145,000 miles or more each way per person will be worth it to some.
The best availability for this award travel using Alaska miles is February-May 2024, and we recommend visiting during this time, especially the summer months of February-March (although in Queenstown, New Zealand, February and April historically tend to be less rainy than March).
To fly Fiji Airways Business Class in a flat bed seat on the A350 between LAX and NAN, you'll want the following once per week flights, since Fiji Airways' other flights are in angled flat:
LAX-NAN-AKL
- Depart Los Angeles LAX Thursdays 23:45, Arrive Nadi NAN Saturdays 5:45 (Fiji 811)
- Depart NAN Saturdays 10:00, Arrive Auckland AKL 14:00 (Fiji 411)
AKL-NAN-LAX
- Depart AKL 14:30, Arrive NAN 17:20 (Fiji 410)
- Depart NAN 21:40, Arrive LAX 12:55 (Fiji 810)

Where to Stay in New Zealand
Most of New Zealand's best luxury hotels are small luxury lodges that include both breakfast and gourmet dinner daily, perfect for fans of Relais & Chateaux properties. Our top recommendations, which we reserve for TravelSort clients with Virtuoso benefits, are The Farm at Cape Kidnappers in Hawke's Bay, Matakauri Lodge in Queenstown, Otahuna in the Christchurch area, and Kauri Cliffs in the Bay of Islands.
