American Airlines New Business Class 777-300ER Routes

American Airlines New Business Class 777-300ER Routes

“American Airlines new business class on the 777-300ER has flat bed seats, but which routes can I fly it, and what is the roll out schedule?” writes TravelSort reader Sam.

American introduced new flat bed business class seats (as well as new first class) in its new 777-300ER aircraft earlier this year with its January 31 flight from Dallas to Sao Paulo. The Business Class flat bed seats are similar to Cathay Pacific Business Class, and very private. All well and good, but to Sam's question–on which routes can you fly them?

What Are the Features of American's New Business Class?

American's old business class is in a cramped 2-3-2 configuration and the seat is angled flat, so not very comfortable for sleeping. The new business class on the 777-300ER features:
  • 1-2-1 seating configuration, so every seat has aisle access
  • Fully lie flat, 26″ width and 75″ pitch
  • Panasonic eX2 IFE, Bose Noise Cancelling headsets
  • Revamped lavatory with electronically controlled faucet
  • Walk-up bar
  • Cubbyhole storage box with vanity mirror

How Do I Check Whether My Flight is the New 777-300ER?

Look at the flight details, specifically at “equipment” or “plane type” for 77W, which will mean it is the 777-300ER. On the American Airlines site, you can click to view the seat map, which will show the 1-2-1 configuration of the new business class, if it is a 777-300ER. Here's an example:

My Flight is One of the Current 777-300ER Routes: Will I Definitely Have the New Seat?

While you're supposed to, there could be an equipment swap such that you fly in an older aircraft. Keep monitoring the seat maps.

If There is an Aircraft Change So I'm No Longer on the 777-300ER Can I Get a Free Cancellation and Redeposit Miles?

Unfortunately, no–if there is a material schedule change (such as 2 hours or more) you'd be able to avoid the AA cancellation/redeposit fee, but there is never a guarantee of aircraft type (or seat type) for American or any other airline.

When Will American Start 777-300ER Routes to Chicago ORD, Miami MIA, etc.?

Sorry, no inside info. But bookmark this AA page that lists the current and soon to start 777-300ER routes.
