The Park Hyatt Niseko Hanazono opened in 2020 as the third Park Hyatt in Japan, after the Park Hyatt Tokyo and Park Hyatt Kyoto. It includes 100 rooms and suites on the hotel side, as well as about 70 private residences, some of which are available for guests to reserve.
.
Location, Arrival and Check-In
The Park Hyatt Niseko is a little over a 2 hour drive from New Chitose Airport (CTS) in Hokkaido, which offers nonstop flights from Bangkok BKK, Hangzhou HGH, Hong Kong HKG, Honolulu HNL (from 4/3/24), Kuala Lumpur KUL, Seoul ICN, Shanghai PVG, Singapore SIN, and Taipei TPE, among others, in addition to many Japanese cities. It's only a 1.5 hour flight from Tokyo HND, or just under a 2 hour flight from Osaka KIX.
Although I reserved a car departure for my departure, for my arrival I took the train to Kutchan Station, about an 11 minute drive from the hotel, for which the Park Hyatt Niseko offers a complimentary pickup and dropoff service when arranged in advance. The driver met me and was kind enough, when he saw me taking photos, to stop briefly so I could take a less blurry photo of Mount Yotei:

He took me to the hotel entrance, whereas the Residences have their own dedicated entrance and check-in, but since I didn't have much luggage it wasn't an issue to walk through the hotel to the check-in for the Residences.

King Studio Residence, Park Suite Deluxe, 2 Bedroom Penthouse
We particularly like the residences, all of which include either a kitchenette or full kitchen as well as a washer/dryer, something that comes in very handy when skiing or traveling in Japan for awhile, since it makes it easier to travel lightly and bring fewer clothes.
We stayed in a King Studio Residence with Onsen; all residences except the entry level Studio Residences have their own private onsen, with natural hot spring water that turns on at the push of the button. This is wonderfully tranquil, and especially convenient during busier times of year, when it may be difficult to get a reservation in the public onsen at your preferred time.

Our Hyatt Prive welcome amenities included fresh apples, a sachet of mixed nuts, Japanese rice crackers and a local “Milkuchen” sponge cake, which, while fine, wasn't close to as good as the Pierre Herme pastries available at breakfast or for afternoon tea.
In addition to Nespresso coffee, there was TWG tea, which we appreciated.
.
Studio Residences have a kitchenette with a microwave, electric range, pots and utensils, although the mini fridge wasn't any larger than a typical mini bar fridge. Larger residences have a full kitchen.

We were also able to view a Park Suite Deluxe:

Park Hyatt Niseko Restaurants and Dining
We were very impressed with the variety and quality of dining at the Park Hyatt Niseko. We've covered our experiences with dinner at Sushi Mitsukawa and Robata and China Kitchen‘s dim sum brunch.
Other restaurants include:
- Teppan: dinner only, Tuesdays-Saturdays 5-9:30pm (last seating); requires a two person minimum and reservation prior to 3pm the day before dining
- Olivio: lunch and dinner Saturdays-Wednesdays
- Molière Montagne: lunch and dinner daily except Wednesdays
- The Lounge (Hotel lobby): daily lunch and dinner; afternoon tea is served here outside of peak ski season
- Deli Bakery: Pierre Hermé bread and pastries available 11am-8pm
- Mountain Lounge (Residences): seasonally open 11:30am-10pm, serving afternoon tea 2-5pm and a fondue menu for dinner 5-10pm. From March (after peak ski season) it only serves drinks.
Note that because Molière Montagne and Sushi Mitsukawa are not operated by the hotel, the Hyatt Privé hotel credit can't be used for them.
.
TravelSort Clients enjoy complimentary daily buffet breakfast for up to two guests per bedroom, which is laid out in the Deli area that connects the Residences to the Hotel side, with seating in the Robata restaurant.
Highlights from the buffet were of course the Pierre Herme breads and pastries; the locally made Niseko cheeses; yogurt and bircher muesli; smoked salmon; Japanese negitoro (minced tuna with green onion); and noodle soup with condiments.
.
Additionally, egg dishes are made to order and be requested from the menu, along with drinks.
.
We enjoyed the Egg Benedict with Salmon and Spinach (it comes one to an order, so if you'd like two, make sure to specify).
.
The cappuccino was the best we had in Japan on this trip.

Park Hyatt Niseko Fitness and Spa
At the time of our visit, the public onsen in the hotel had to be reserved by QR code, due to capacity constraints. The onsen hours were 6am-10pm daily. The onsen pools are indoors only and overlook the stream that runs by the hotel; in my studio residence, the window by the onsen could be opened for fresh air.
.
There's also a spa for massages and facials, and a swimming pool.
.
Hyatt Prive Benefits
TravelSort Clients enjoy Hyatt Prive benefits:
- Hotel room upgrade at time of booking, except for high occupancy periods when upgrade is based on availability at check-in
- Daily breakfast for two guests per bedroom
- $100 equivalent hotel credit once per stay
- Priority for early check-in/late check-out based on availability
.
The Verdict
Apart from the incredibly hard, uncomfortable bed, we loved our stay at the Park Hyatt Niseko. A significant part of that was the convenience of having our own private onsen, thanks to our King Studio Residence with Onsen, as well as the Pierre Herme breads and pastries at breakfast (also available at Afternoon Tea and to take away from the Deli).
The hotel is perfectly positioned for Niseko skiing, as a true ski in/ski out property, with a high speed chair lift steps from the hotel and convenient ski lockers.
