Pros of Iberia Plus

One of the key advantages of using Iberia Avios is that you have early access to the award calendar. Iberia Plus opens its award calendar 360 days before departure, while British Airways Executive Club is 355 days prior, American AAdvantage is 331 days prior, and Alaska Mileage Plan is 330 days prior. That's critical for being able to book Iberia Business Class for high demand routes. It's especially ideal for travelers from the West Coast and Mexico City, which are otherwise challenging markets for business class awards to Europe.

Cons of Iberia Plus

Unfortunately, if you dislike the occasional tech snafus on the British Airways site, you're going to like Iberia's site even less. I've had to reset a login password because the current one (which is supposed to be valid) was generating errors, redo searches that were hanging, and call Iberia to book an award after repeatedly getting a “general error” during the last stage of the booking process. And that's on a single day.

Iberia Business Class Pros and Cons

Iberia Business Class is overall a good way to get to/from Europe in a flat bed seat with decent food, especially if you don't expect too much (business class is all about the seat, don't expect great service the way one might for first class).

Just keep in mind that most likely you won't be able to select your seat right away when booking award travel at the end of the schedule, and that even after selecting your seat, Iberia has been known to give award passengers' seats to paying passengers, which is annoying. These flights also tend to fly full, so we recommend requesting your meal choices as soon as the flight crew is willing to take them, as selections run out quickly for the more popular items.
