The Verdict
I had low expectations of SilkAir, since it's the regional arm of Singapore Airlines and I mentally put it in the same bucket as other Asia low cost carriers. But, while it's true the business class seat was what I expected–it only reclined slightly, and there was no seat back IFE–the overall flight experience was better than I anticipated. The orange juice tasted fresh squeezed, and was so good I had three glasses of it over the course of the flight. I wouldn't have expected any choice of meal on such a short flight, but there were two entree choices (chicken sausage of course, since we were flying to Indonesia, where much of the population is Muslim and doesn't eat pork). And service was good.
