AMEX Has a 90K AMEX Business Gold Offer targeted to some American Express cardholders that doesn't have the “once in a lifetime” language that is standard for most AMEX card public offers. It's worth reviewing your snail mail to see if you receive the targeted offer, particularly if your business' natural spend is high, making it easy to meet the minimum spend of $10,000 within the first three months of membership.
Here are the details:
- Earn 90,000 AMEX Membership Rewards points after spending at least $10,000 on the card during the first three months of card membership
- Earn 4X Membership Rewards points per dollar (on the first $150,000 total combined spend) on the top two of six categories of spend each billing cycle: 1) Tech spend from select hardware, software and cloud providers; 2) U.S. shipping spend; 3) U.S. advertising; 4) U.S. dining spend; 5) U.S. gas spend; 6) Airfare purchased directly from airlines
- Apply by 4/30/22
- No foreign transaction fees
- $295 annual fee is NOT waived the first year

Is the 90K AMEX Business Gold Offer Worth It?
For those who have had the AMEX Business Gold card and are targeted, this is a great offer. We'd pick it over the 120K AMEX Business Platinum offer, which requires $15,000 spend within the first three months and carries a heftier $595 annual fee (soon to be a $695 annual fee, for applications received 1/13/22 or later). Given the lower annual fee, $295 for 90,000 points is akin to buying points for 0.3 cents per point, whereas for the AMEX Platinum, $595 for 120,000 points means paying about half a cent a point. Of course, these calculations ignore all other benefits,

Best Uses of AMEX Membership Rewards Points
As we wrote in Why Booking Hotels with AMEX Points is a Terrible Value, the worst uses of Membership Rewards points are the “Pay with Points” type offers for hotels, Amazon purchases, gift cards, and the like. The most valuable use of points, if you value first class or business class flights, is to transfer points to airline frequent flyer programs to book awards such as Emirates First Class, ANA First Class or Business Class, JAL First Class, JAL Sky Suite Business Class, Singapore Business Class, etc. Ensure you know what you've verified award availability, or use our Award Booking Service to assist. Also aim to redeem AMEX Membership Rewards points for at least 2 cents per point or more, otherwise it often makes more sense to pay cash, unless you have millions of points that you're trying to burn. Stretch your points even further by transferring AMEX Membership Rewards points when there's a transfer bonus to an airline partner, such as British Airways Executive Club, Iberia, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, Aeroplan, etc.
