The Four Seasons Hualalai is perfect if you want to simply relax and enjoy beautiful views and fantastic service while on a honeymoon, romantic getaway or special family vacation, but it also has one of the most comprehensive activities programs I've seen at a resort. If you have no interest in lying on the beach or poolside, have no worry–you won't be bored with all of the choices on offer. For example, here are the activities on offer for just one of our days at the resort:
Here are a few of our favorite Four Seasons Hualalai Activities:
1. Snorkel in Kings Pond
One of the most unique aspects of the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai is Kings Ponds, with 3000 tropical fish representing 75 different species, plus a spotted eagle ray. We loved snorkeling there (complimentary snorkeling equipment is available to borrow), and even young kids can be taken around on one of the small floating boats.
2. Feed the Eagle Ray
A huge highlight for the munchkin was being able to feed the spotted eagle ray, Kanani, helped by the resort's resident marine biologist. His description of the sensation? “It was ticklish and felt like a wet vacuum!” I'll take his word for it, since I didn't have a chance to feed the eagle ray–your best chance is actually as a kid attending the kids club.
3. Kids for All Seasons Kids Club
Speaking of the Kids for All Seasons Kids Club, it's a fantastic one at the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai. There are plenty of indoor and outdoor activities, and there's a weekly schedule so that your child can decide which times or days they want to attend. A huge plus is that the kids club is complimentary. There are some optional activities offered that have a fee, and of course you'll need to order and pay for lunch if your child has it at the kids' club, but otherwise it's free.
4. See Sea Turtles
There are many sea turtles all around the Big Island of Hawaii, and there's a good chance of seeing them if you go for a morning walk along the beach. Remember not to get too close to turtles, which are protected in Hawaii, and to keep a respectful distance.
5. Watch Hula to Live Hawaiian Music
At Four Seasons Maui at Wailea, the traditional Hawaiian music and hula dancing is in the lobby. At Four Seasons Hualalai, weather permitting, there's often Hawaiian music and hula outside Beach Tree. It lends a convivial, relaxed vibe that attracts couples seeking a more casual evening, and families, since young children can play and run around on the nearby lawn.
6. Take a Tennis, Tai Chi, or Other Fitness Class
Anyone who enjoys tennis, basketball, yoga, tai chi, or several other sports offered at Four Seasons Hualalai can enjoy stimulating classes. Tennis clinics range from those for young kids to adults, and there are also informal basketball pick up games, a climbing wall, and plenty of fitness classes that include yoga and tai chi. Even if physical exertion isn't your thing, there's meditation and art classes offered. Note that these activities are for a fee, and you should make an advance reservation.
7. Taste Kona Coffee
Several mornings each week at 8am outside ‘ULU, Four Seasons Hualalai offers complimentary Kona Coffee tasting by local farmers who grow the beans.
8. Enjoy a Hawaiian Sunset
If you booked a Prime Ocean View or Ocean Front Room or Suite, you can enjoy a magnificent Hawaiian sunset right from your balcony. Or make an advance reservation for ‘ULU for an earlier seating, say at 6:30pm, to be able to enjoy the sunset over a romantic dinner. Also see ‘ULU Ocean Grill Review and Four Seasons Hualalai Dining
9. Relax in the Jacuzzi
After some active swimming in the Sea Shell pool or other exercise, the adjacent jacuzzi was very welcome for relaxing and soothing sore muscles.
10. Learn About Hawaiian Culture
The Cultural Center offers a number of Hawaiiana activities that encourage guests to learn more about the ancient Hawaiians, from lei making to hula to lauhala weaving to learning about the Hawaiians' star navigation.
If you've recently stayed at the Four Seasons Hualalai, what were your favorite activities?
