You can earn 500 Singapore KrisFlyer miles for opening a new KrisFlyer account, by using code JOINKF2017 when signing up for a new account. Even if you already have a KrisFlyer account, it can be worth signing your spouse, partner and/or kids up for their own KrisFlyer accounts, with a 500 mile bonus per account.
It's true that Singapore KrisFlyer is devaluing its award chart effective March 23, 2017, with a number of first class and business class saver awards increasing by 28-30% in terms of miles (not as bad as the AAdvantage Award Chart Devaluation or Emirates First Class Awards Increasing 100% in the Alaska Mileage Plan Devaluation though), although fuel surcharges will be removed. Even so, Singapore KrisFlyer has a good Star Alliance partner award chart that allows one-way awards that is often a better deal than United MileagePlus. And the advantage of KrisFlyer are its many transfer partners--see below.
1. Sign Up by April 14, 2017
Simply go to the KrisFlyer New Account Sign Up Page, fill out the details, and don't forget to enter the code JOINKF2017 in the promo code field at the bottom before submitting the form.
2. Click the Activation Link
You should then receive an activation email, and you must click on the link to activate the new account. Record the new KrisFlyer number, since it can be awhile until you receive the physical card in the mail.
3. Bonus Miles Typically Post within 24-48 Hours
The 500 bonus miles don't post instantly, but typically post within 24-48 hours.
When Do KrisFlyer Miles Expire?
KrisFlyer miles expire 3 years at the end of the equivalent month in which they were earned. So if you earn 500 bonus miles now, in March 2017, they would expire March 31, 2020. 3 years is considerably more generous than the 18 months many U.S. frequent flyer programs give, although keep in mind you can't keep KrisFlyer miles alive through earning or redemption activity. You do, however need to have some kind of activity 18 months after enrolling in KrisFlyer, otherwise your account and the miles will expire. Any kind of earning or redemption activity within those first 18 months will keep the account valid for another 36 months, but all miles are subject to the 3 year expiration that is based on when they were earned.
Earning More Singapore KrisFlyer Miles
Even if you don't fly paid flights on Singapore or Silkair, you can earn Singapore miles by crediting other Star Alliance flights (such as United Airlines, Air Canada, Lufthansa, Asiana, Brussels Airlines, etc.) to KrisFlyer; you can even credit JetBlue, Virgin America, Virgin Atlantic, and Virgin Australia flights to KrisFlyer.
The easiest way to add to your KrisFlyer balance is by transferring points from credit cards:
- Chase Ultimate Rewards transfer 1:1 to KrisFlyer
- AMEX Membership Rewards transfer 1:1 to KrisFlyer
- Citi ThankYou Points transfer 1:1 to KrisFlyer
- Starwood Preferred Guest transfer 1:1 to KrisFlyer, with a 25% transfer bonus when transferring in increments of 20,000 Starpoints. See SPG Airline Partners: Transfer Starwood Points to Miles
