What are the best NYC luxury hotel rooms for families? Many clients and readers have asked me over the years why there aren't more hotel rooms in NYC with 2 queen size beds, which will fit 2 adults and 2 kids. Most hotel rooms, even among luxury hotels in NYC, have 1 king bed, or more rarely, 2 twin beds or 2 double beds. But there are very few rooms, particularly in the luxury segment, with 2 queen beds. It really comes down to space and economics. You can't put 2 queen beds in most of the rooms that have 1 king bed, as you'd need more space. And hotels would also, of course, prefer to sell you two rooms, either connecting or adjacent to each other, instead of 4 people in one room.

The four hotels below are my picks for clients who want a 5 star hotel with 2 queen beds, so that they can enjoy all the amenities of a luxury property, but not have to incur the cost of two rooms or a 2 bedroom suite.

The Peninsula New York: Grand Luxe Room with 2 Queen Beds

We enjoyed our stay at The Peninsula New York, which is a great family hotel thanks to its proximity to Central Park, FAQ Schwarz, and the Apple store, plus these Grand Luxe Rooms with 2 queen beds and the indoor swimming pool. And while the Virtuoso breakfast benefit is for two guests per room, you also receive a $100 food and beverage for use during your stay, so that can help defray the cost of breakfasts for the kids. I highly recommend the Maine Lobster and Eggs 🙂

Trump Central Park: Executive City View Suite with King Bed + Queen Sofa Bed

A family will find the Executive City View Suite most comfortable, since the 700 sq. ft. suite includes a bedroom with king bed, with a queen size sofa bed in the living room. There's also a kitchen with Sub-Zero appliances, which is convenient for anyone traveling with a baby or young child and needing to easily prepare bottles or impromptu snacks. The hotel is located at the southwestern corner of Central Park, with easy access to a Central Park playground as well as to the Shops at Columbus Circle, where a Whole Foods is in the basement. Plus, the Trump also has an indoor swimming pool, a good bet for being able to cool off in the summer.

Langham Place New York 5th Avenue: Family Place with 2 Queen Beds

Langham Place 5th Avenue is the new incarnation of what used to be The Setai Fifth Avenue. The location isn't as convenient to Central Park as The Peninsula New York and the Trump Central Park, but it is practically next door to the Empire State Building, in case you're traveling with any budding architects or just want to visit an iconic landmark.

Langham Place New York 5th Avenue has some of New York's largest rooms, so this is the place to book if you're worried about feeling claustrophobic in normal size NYC hotel rooms: each Family Place room is 780-900 sq. ft. and can fit up to 5 guests, in case you have 3 kids and 2 parents in your family.

The Plaza: Deluxe Room with 2 Queen Beds

Most of The Plaza New York's rooms have just 1 king bed, but there are some Deluxe Rooms with 2 queen beds. As with all New York hotel rooms with 2 queen beds, I recommend booking *early* since they do sell out. The Deluxe Rooms with 2 queen beds are 550 square feet and the view is on 58th Street, so request as high a floor as possible to minimize the street noise.
