Munich is already a favorite with beer lovers at Oktoberfest and year-round, but this thriving and very livable city also has plenty to offer even non beer drinkers. There's of course the bustling Marienplatz, Munich's central square, from which you can explore the old town with its atmospheric churches, landmarks, and boutiques. Don't miss the Glockenspiel clock tower of the New Town Hall at noon, where you can watch life-size figures memorialize some of Baviarian history. Foodies will definitely want to visit the Viktualienmarkt, an expansive daily farmers market with everything from regional sausages and cheese and delectable pastries to fresh produce and flowers. A favorite activity for many visitors is taking a guided bike tour through the city and its lovely parks, such as the English Garden. At the end of the day, retreat to a beautiful room or suite in one of our favorite Munich luxury and boutique hotels–each offers a peaceful oasis to relax and recharge.

Getting to Munich with Frequent Flyer Miles and Points
Here are some of the best ways to get to Munich in first class and business class using frequent flyer miles or loyalty points:
4. Singapore Airlines First Class to Moscow, then Lufthansa or S7 to Munich
As Ben wrote in the 15 Best First and Business Class Airline Awards in 2012, you can transfer American Express Membership Rewards points or SPG points to Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer and redeem 114,750 KrisFlyer miles and about $400 in taxes for a Singapore Airlines first class roundtrip ticket to Moscow. From Moscow to Munich, you'll need to redeem United miles or other Star Alliance miles for Lufthansa, or American AAdvantage miles for S7. The Moscow-Munich flight is about 3.5 hours, so this route is for those who don't mind (or want) to take the scenic route, or who want to fly Singapore Airlines. Keep in mind that if you want to leave the airside part of Moscow's Domodedovo Airport, or even stopover in Moscow for a couple of days, you'll need a Russian Visa.
