Annona Location and Hours

Annona is located at the Park Hyatt Toronto, at 4 Avenue Road in Yorkville. When facing the hotel, Annona is located on the right of the entrance.

The Scene

The scene at Annona was business-like in the morning when we had breakfast, with hotel guests, most in suits. At lunch both times when we were there, the restaurant was practically deserted, with just a few other tables dining. It felt very much a hotel restaurant, with none of the buzz of Cafe Boulud at Four Seasons Toronto, and we were by far the youngestd people dining in the restaurant.

Annona Lunch Menu and Food

Annona's lunch menu offered quite a few choices for soups, salads, sandwiches and hot dishes:

There was also a kids' menu, with a Halloween theme on the back for my son to color.

I was very pleasantly surprised with the quality of the bread and lavosh that started us off. The bread was warm and seemingly freshly baked, with some olives and feta cheese baked into it. There was olive tapenade on the side and olive oil, and the tapenade with the fresh bread was delicious–a great start to the meal.

My son's grilled cheese sandwich was straightforward, which is generally what kids want, and was served as requested with steamed vegetables:

I decided to try half portions of the seafood risotto and the crab cakes. The seafood risotto was rather bland, but it did include a nice portion of lobster.

The crab cake was delicious, especially with the balsamic glaze accent and micro greens:

The following day we had a quick lunch before departing. My son chose a Margherita pizza, which he loved:

And I had the fish of the day, salmon, with a citrus beurre blanc sauce, mashed potatoes and asparagus. It was satisfying, if on the rich side due to the sauce.

Annona Breakfast Menu and Food

Annona's breakfast menu covers all the expected breakfast favorites, including eggs benedict, waffles, cereal, yogurt and fruit.

We started off with some fresh squeezed orange juice and coffee, both of them good but not memorable:

I tried the breakfast tasting, with an egg benedict, yogurt with berries, and waffle. The hollandaise sauce on the benedict was slightly congealed, as though it had been sitting a little too long, but the yogurt with berries and Belgian waffle were good.

My son ordered oatmeal, but it wasn't as tasty as the version at the Trump Toronto's America Restaurant, which had been enlivened with apples. This one was plain and not at all creamy, so we didn't finish it.

The Verdict

Annona Restaurant at the Park Hyatt Toronto was a better than expected restaurant food-wise for lunch, particularly the fresh bread with tapenade that starts the meal, and seafood dishes such as the crab cake. The kids' menu offered good choices and my son enjoyed both his meals. Breakfast was a bit hit and miss: good yogurt with berries and waffle with maple syrup, but slightly disappointing oatmeal and eggs benedict.

Service was polite, but the kitchen was rather slow, even with few guests in the restaurant, and I wouldn't recommend the restaurant if you're looking for any type of atmosphere–it very much felt like a hotel restaurant.
